BTO-On the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the Traditional Day of the Vietnamese Fisheries Industry (April 1, 1959 - April 1, 2024), on the morning of March 30, at the Song Luy irrigation reservoir - Bac Binh district, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of the province coordinated with the Provincial Irrigation Works Exploitation One Member Co., Ltd. to organize a fish release ceremony to restore natural aquatic resources.
Attending the ceremony were comrades: Duong Van An - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of Vinh Phuc Provincial Party Committee, former Secretary of Binh Thuan Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Hong Hai, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee Tran Thi Thanh Huong, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Mai Kieu, representative of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha of the province and leaders of relevant departments, branches and units.
This is an annual activity of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of the province with the aim of restoring and regenerating natural aquatic resources in the water bodies in the area. Thereby, raising awareness of the importance and value of natural resources and biodiversity, and at the same time identifying the role and responsibility of the community in protecting aquatic resources.
Here, more than 60,000 freshwater fish fry including grass carp, bighead carp, silver carp, common carp... with sizes from 5-7 cm, no deformities, no scratches, healthy, bright colors were released into the lake. According to the Organizing Committee, Song Luy Lake has a designed capacity of about 100 million m3, an open surface area of about 1,500 hectares, a stable water source, and good water quality. Through surveys, it shows that the above common freshwater fish species are highly adaptable, growing and developing well in the lake ecosystem.
Speaking at the fish release ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Hong Hai called on relevant departments, agencies, local authorities and associations and organizations to continue to promote their roles and responsibilities in disseminating and raising awareness among officials, civil servants, members of associations and organizations and people in the conservation, protection and development of aquatic resources; actively participate in releasing fish, regenerating aquatic resources, creating a ripple effect in the community, contributing to the development of aquatic resources, creating livelihoods, improving the lives of people working in the fishing industry. At the same time, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested the functional forces to strictly handle acts of illegal fishing and exploitation of seafood, causing the destruction of aquatic resources.
It is known that on the same morning, the Binh Thuan Shrimp Association, the Department of Fisheries and the Hon Cau Marine Protected Area Management Board also organized the release of seeds to restore aquatic resources in the waters of the Hon Cau Marine Protected Area, Tuy Phong District. About 600,000 tiger prawns, sea fish, snails... were quarantined and guaranteed quality and released back into the sea.
According to Mr. Mai Kieu, Director of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, currently, high-intensity and continuous fishing activities, as well as the impact of climate change, have directly affected the environment and habitat of many aquatic species. Many species are overexploited, exhausted and unable to recover. Therefore, the annual release of fish to regenerate aquatic resources is extremely important in order to supplement the source of fish in natural waters, contributing to the recovery and regeneration of aquatic resources. At the same time, it promotes and enhances the responsibility of all levels, sectors, especially the fishing community and businesses in the work of regenerating and protecting aquatic resources for the goal of developing the province's fisheries industry in a sustainable and responsible manner.
