In the final match of the group stage, Thailand came from behind to defeat Japan 3-1 in Group C of the 2025 AFC Women's Futsal Championship, winning the top spot with 7 points. Japan finished second and advanced to the quarterfinals with Indonesia (the third-placed team with the best record). The match was dramatic with many excellent saves from the Thai goalkeeper.
Japan led until the 26th minute but Thailand quickly equalized and then scored two more goals by Paerploy Huajaipetch, ending an impressive victory for the Southeast Asian representative.
Closing the final match of the group stage, the first team of Group C, Thailand, will meet Hong Kong (China). Meanwhile, the second team of Group C, Japan, will face the Vietnamese women's futsal team.
In addition, Indonesia and Hong Kong (China) are the two third-placed teams with the best records to advance to the quarterfinals. The opponent of this Southeast Asian representative is host China - the team that won Group A.
The remaining quarter-final match is between Chinese Taipei (second in Group A) and Iran (second in Group B).
The quarter-final matches will take place on May 13. The opening match will be between coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang and his team and their opponents Japan at 10 a.m. (Vietnam time).
