Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy, in Nghia Lo Ward ( Quang Ngai City) said, although she has used MZ MSG for a long time, she did not read the information on the packaging carefully, only seeing the words "packaged in Vietnam" made her feel secure. However, recently, when she looked more closely, she discovered that the packaging of this product did not have the name and address of the manufacturing company before packaging, so she felt worried. When I asked the seller, she replied that the product was of good quality, so she could use it with peace of mind!

Similarly, many items in the fashion , cosmetics... fields at markets and stores are also unclear about their origin. At a cosmetics and accessories store on Tran Hung Dao Street (Quang Ngai City), many domestic and imported products, from beauty products to handbags, perfumes, clothes, accessories... are on sale. However, many products, such as perfumes, only have foreign words, no other information, including Vietnamese sub-labels. Although the store owner committed that the perfumes are produced by branded enterprises, the products do not have product labels, and the packaging does not contain information about their origin. Meanwhile, product labels are the basis for determining the origin of products through information registered by the manufacturing facility and licensed by the competent authority, including: Product name, name and address of the organization or individual responsible for the product.

Ms. Tran Thi Thu Tam, in La Ha town (Tu Nghia) said that many clothing products are sold at some large fashion stores but do not have product labels. As for shoes, they have Adidas, Nike... brand labels and are said by the store owner to be imported goods, but the products do not have barcodes or Vietnamese sub-labels. I hope that the authorities will have clearer regulations in controlling the origin and provenance of goods to protect the rights of consumers and avoid buying fake goods at high prices.

Be a smart consumer

Production and trading of counterfeit, poor quality, and unknown origin goods not only directly affects people's lives, but also negatively impacts the market and harms legitimate businesses. In addition to the efforts of authorities, consumers should protect themselves by purchasing goods at official stores and distributors.

The manager of a branded handbag store on Hung Vuong Street, Nguyen Nghiem Ward (Quang Ngai City) said that in addition to the differences in materials, appearance, logos, barcodes, packaging, prices... branded products have clear invoices and documents, and anti-counterfeit stamps. Imported goods will have clear Vietnamese sub-labels.

According to this manager, an important way for consumers to distinguish between genuine and fake goods and determine the origin is through the barcode printed on the product. Because transparent businesses all register barcodes for their products and are certified by the authorities. There are 2 types of barcodes: 8-digit codes and 13-digit codes, both codes have the same identification method, in which the first 3 digits are the place of origin, for example: 893 is Vietnam; 880 is Korea; 885 is Thailand; 690, 691, 692, 693 are products made in China... In addition, consumers need to form the habit of looking up the origin of goods, this is a solution to trace back from the product on sale to the original place of production, step by step according to the time and location of the production, processing, storage, preservation, transportation, distribution and business process.

Director of the Provincial Market Management Department Tran Xuan Thuong said that in order to protect consumers' rights and stabilize the market, the Provincial Market Management Department directed market management teams to closely coordinate with relevant agencies and units to step up inspection, examination, and market control, in order to promptly prevent and handle acts of buying and selling counterfeit goods, fake goods, poor quality goods, goods of unknown origin... At the same time, it is ready to promptly receive and handle information and feedback from people about acts related to counterfeit goods, fake goods, poor quality goods or taking advantage of the scarcity of goods in the market to speculate, hoard goods, and increase prices.
