Trade surplus of the entire agriculture, forestry and fishery sector reached more than 8 billion USD

Agricultural, forestry and fishery exports in the first 6 months of the year brought in 29.2 billion USD, up 19% over the same period.

According to information from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on June 28, with the results achieved in the first 6 months of the year, the export turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products of the entire agricultural sector in 2024 will reach 54 billion USD.

Agriculture maintained a relatively high growth rate, affirming its role as a pillar of the economy ; productivity and output of many key products increased, ensuring the supply of food, foodstuffs, and essential goods, making an important contribution to the country's GDP growth.

According to Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien, despite many difficulties, the market for agricultural, forestry and fishery products is still maintained and expanded, and agricultural, forestry and fishery exports continue to maintain high growth momentum. The total export turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products in the first 6 months of the year reached 29.2 billion USD, up 19% over the same period in 2023.

Meanwhile, the total import turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products was about 20.92 billion USD. Thus, the trade surplus of the whole industry was about 8.28 billion USD, an increase of 62.4%.

Contributing to that result, there are 7 products and product groups with export value reaching over 1 billion USD: coffee, rubber, rice, vegetables, cashew nuts, shrimp, and wood products.

Regarding agricultural, forestry and fishery export markets: The United States, China and Japan continue to be the three largest export markets for Vietnam's agricultural, forestry and fishery products. Of which, the export value to the United States accounted for 20.7%, up 20.8%; China accounted for 20.2%, up 9.5% and Japan accounted for 6.7%, up 5% over the same period last year.

From the results achieved in the first 6 months of the year, based on forecasts of difficulties, challenges, advantages and opportunities for the agricultural and rural sectors in the last 6 months of the year, to best achieve the set goals, the ministry needs to focus on implementing tasks and many solutions.
