START A BUSINESS WITH HOMETOWN SPECIALTIES
Taking us on a tour of the company's production area, Ms. Minh Thy said that she used to run a garden cafe in Ho Chi Minh City and had a lingzhi mushroom factory. Her hometown is the cradle of Hoa Loc sand mango, a famous specialty of the whole country. Once when she returned to her hometown, seeing many ripe sand mangoes falling, she remembered the dried mango and banana dishes her grandmother used to make, so she peeled and dried them to try. She gave them to relatives and friends to eat, and everyone praised them as delicious. From then on, the idea of starting a business was in her mind.
Ms. Minh Thy shared: “My hometown has the famous Hoa Loc mango that many people know about, but it often suffers from “good harvest but low price, good price but bad harvest”. From that, I came up with the idea of producing dried mango to let more people know about it, bringing Hoa Loc mango further. When I saw positive feedback from the market and many orders, I increased production. The BamoFood brand was born from that (in 2017)”.
Ms. Minh Thy and her dried Hoa Loc mango products are known by many people. |
According to Ms. Minh Thy, instead of drying mangoes, which is time-consuming and does not yield much, she thought of the soft-drying method. Because if dried, the eater will feel tough, hard and not delicious. When dried, the flavor of the mango will still be preserved, so she learned about this technology. When she grasped this technology, she invested in machinery and opened a factory to produce. "At that time, in my hometown, there were many unemployed women. Therefore, when the company invested in machinery, production equipment and recruited these workers, seeing people happy, I was also happy. Since then, I have been passionate about the profession of producing dried fruit and have been with it until now" - Ms. Minh Thy confided.
In the early days, Ms. Minh Thy encountered many difficulties when starting her business. Because many people did not know about the company's products. Not to mention, BamoFood chose to follow its own path of producing "natural" dried fruits (no sugar, no colorants, no preservatives), few people chose this method. Because it was the pioneer in this production direction, the company encountered many difficulties. In addition, due to lack of experience, the products were often damaged and had to be thrown away.
Faced with difficulties, there was a time when Ms. Minh Thy wanted to give up her dried fruit production career and return to the city. However, with her passion and determination, Ms. Minh Thy has continuously learned to create quality products with beautiful designs. “About 2-3 years after starting the business, thanks to the accumulation of experience from practice and learning from experts, the product designs gradually became more “beautiful” and gradually improved. Since then, the quality and design of the products have been increasingly improved, with many large orders,” Ms. Minh Thy confided.
After the dried mango product, Ms. Minh Thy experimented with drying Siamese bananas, custard apples, pineapples, dragon fruit... and all were well received by the market. Up to now, her company has developed 8 types of dried fruits such as: Hoa Loc sand mango, Siamese banana, guava, dragon fruit... Among the dried fruit products, Hoa Loc sand mango and dragon fruit are the two main products of the company.
To make consumers aware of her products, Ms. Thy uses social networks to post information and promotional images, including on e-commerce platforms in Tien Giang . The company also actively goes to retail stores and participates in trade promotion fairs in many provinces and cities across the country to promote its products. With the motto "slow and steady wins the race", the company's products have become increasingly known to many people.
Ms. Minh Thy's greatest joy is creating jobs for many local women. |
“The difference of BamoFood dried fruit products comes from the quality and drying technique. Thanks to the “natural” drying, the products after being baked retain the characteristic flavor of the fruits. This different direction has created the success of the company's products. The company pursues high-quality, clean products; prioritizing agricultural products originating from Tien Giang. Even though we actively promote, if the product quality is not good, the sales are not reputable, consumers will leave us. Thanks to focusing on quality, reputation, and attentive customer care, people will always remember us" - Ms. Minh Thy shared.
Currently, some BamoFood dried fruit products such as dried mango, banana, and pineapple have achieved OCOP certification. This contributes to enhancing the BamoFood brand, affirming its quality and reputation with consumers. Dried fruit products are now available at rest stops, airports, restaurants, e-commerce platforms... and in health gift baskets of many businesses.
DEVELOP NEW PRODUCTS
According to Ms. Minh Thy, during the process of starting a business, what she is most satisfied with is producing good, clean, high-quality products that are known by many customers. Besides, what she is most satisfied with is being able to create jobs for many women in the commune. At its peak, the company created jobs for about 25 local workers. On average, each year, the company supplies the market with about 50 tons of various types of dried fruits, equivalent to about 500 tons of raw materials.
“The company's products are well-known, but in the high-end segment, not mass-produced goods, that is the company's own direction. Currently, the company is focusing on processing orders for dried mango to serve export to partners. BamoFood is continuing to explore the market. If the market is positive, the company will continue to develop more high-end product lines to find higher-end markets. At the same time, improve packaging and designs, develop new products to supply the domestic market during the peak season at the end of the year. This is to contribute to solving the output for local agricultural products as well as creating jobs for women in the hometown" - Ms. Minh Thy said about the future direction.
