On the afternoon of September 9, the announcement ceremony of the "Land of a Thousand Flowers" Photo Contest, jointly organized by Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper (SGGP) and the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists (VAPA), took place at the Cultural and Professional Building of Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper, Ho Chi Minh City.

The contest is organized to practically celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025); the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025).

Besides, the contest is also a meaningful program on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the first publication of Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper (May 5, 1975 - May 5, 2025).

At the ceremony, journalist Nguyen Khac Van, Deputy Editor-in-Chief in charge of Sai Gon Giai Phong Newspaper, Head of the Organizing Committee of the Contest, shared: The Land of a Thousand Flowers Contest is organized nationwide, launched on newspapers, social networks, at all levels of photography associations and branches nationwide under VAPA, with 5 thematic clusters including achievements, contributions, thousands of miles of mountains and rivers, green development and for children, with a total value of about 600 million VND. In addition, the authors also have the opportunity to receive Gold, Silver, Bronze medals and certificates of regional exhibition recognition from VAPA.

Accordingly, the authors whose works are in the Top 35 award-winning works according to the 5 themes of the Contest will be awarded a Certificate of the Contest and a cash prize by the Organizing Committee. The authors whose works are in the Top 20 best art photography works will be awarded a certificate by VAPA and 12 of these 20 works will be selected for medals (including 2 Gold medals, 4 Silver medals, 6 Bronze medals). Other award-winning and exhibition works (in addition to the 20 works mentioned above) will also be awarded a certificate of regional exhibition by VAPA.

The Organizing Committee hopes that the contest will contribute to promoting the capacity and passion of the photography community at home and abroad; encouraging the creation of valuable works in the cause of national liberation, the construction and development of a peaceful and prosperous Vietnam; highlighting the achievements of Ho Chi Minh City - the leading economic and cultural center of the country...

Entries can be new creations or creations from April 30, 1975 to present, in accordance with the Contest Rules. The Contest also contributes to enriching and diversifying the source of photographic works to encourage patriotic emulation movements, creating conditions for spreading widely and strongly the good values of the Vietnamese people.

Speaking at the ceremony, Photographer Le Nguyen, Vice President of the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists, Chairman of the Art Council of the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists, affirmed that the first thing I want to emphasize is that to ensure the objectivity and fairness of the Contest, the Organizing Committee will eliminate works that violate the Contest Rules and cancel the judging results, revoke awards and other benefits.

In addition, if you are a VAPA member, the Organizing Committee will cancel all entries, will not be considered for titles, and will not support your creations in 2025-2026. If you are not a VAPA member, the Organizing Committee will cancel all entries, and will not consider you for membership if you meet the admission requirements in 2025-2026.

Please note that according to the Contest Rules, the work must have been created from April 30, 1975 to March 31, 2025 and has never won any prize in any contest organized or sponsored by VAPA. For paper photos, the author or the author's relatives send the original or take a photo of the work, the person submitting the work is responsible for any disputes related to copyright.

Works must not be collaged, added, subtracted, or distorted to change the actual content of the photo (except for Panorama collages) and must not be created based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology.

When the final judging results are available, the organizing committee will contact the authors whose works are in the Top 35 award-winning works, the Top 20 best art photography works awarded VAPA Certificates and other selected works for exhibition to verify the information and origin of the works, especially asking the authors to submit the original files for comparison.

Attending the announcement ceremony of this meaningful contest, Ms. Tran Thi Dieu Thuy, Vice Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, emphasized that the contest has a time limit for the time of taking photos spanning the past 50 years, from the Liberation Day of the South and National Reunification to the present. This is especially meaningful, especially when Ho Chi Minh City and the whole country organize many exciting activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation Day of the South and National Reunification.

Ms. Thuy highly appreciated the contest, identifying this as an opportunity to select typical works to provide for the city's documentation system not only during the time leading up to the 50th anniversary of national reunification but also for many years to come.

The contest has a long duration, suitable for photographers to participate in exploring and creating more works about special marks. Another highlight of the contest is that there is no limit on specific geographical space, helping photographers have enough space to be creative.

“On behalf of the city’s leaders, I highly appreciate the contest and hope that the cooperation between Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper and VAPA will bring about a professional photography contest, with special and impressive works, creating an impressive collection to provide documents for the City not only for the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification, but also for many future generations to look back on the struggle and development of Ho Chi Minh City and the whole country,” the Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee emphasized.

The photo contest “Land of a Thousand Flowers” organized by Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper and the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists contributes to enriching the works and events in Ho Chi Minh City towards celebrating the great national holiday with proud and humane moments and spreading positive values to the community.
