This year's Doan Ngo Festival (the 5th day of the 5th lunar month) falls on a weekend, so businesses in Ho Chi Minh City are not only preparing an abundant supply of goods but also hoping to stimulate consumer demand and increase purchasing power.
In particular, the food and agricultural products industry has recorded a bustling wholesale atmosphere in many seasonal product groups.
Ms. Thu Ngan, a trader at Ward 25 Market, Binh Thanh District (Ho Chi Minh City) said that since May 30, many food businesses have launched the product of bamboo leaf sticky rice cake with ash water (ash sticky rice cake) to the market with many different types and sizes.
This is an indispensable cake on the offering tray of Southern families during the annual Doan Ngo Festival.
“This year, the price of banh ú tro has increased slightly compared to last year, increasing by 500-3,000 VND/piece, depending on the type.
Specifically, banh ú tro is made from traditional ingredients with mung bean filling. The small size costs from 60,000 to 70,000 VND/dozen of 10; the medium size costs from 80,000 to 90,000 VND/dozen of 10; the large size, depending on weight, costs from 100,000 to 150,000 VND/dozen,” Ms. Thu Ngan added.
In addition, a survey at the traditional market network in Ho Chi Minh City such as Ben Thanh, Tan Dinh, Nguyen Van Troi, Thi Nghe, Phu Nhuan... showed that some businesses selling banh u tro also introduced to the market types of cakes made from new ingredients or regional specialties with a common price of 10,000-12,000 VND/piece.
Particularly at the supermarket system in Ho Chi Minh City, the popular listed price of banh ú tro is 7,900 VND/piece.
On every occasion of the Duanwu Festival, not only ash cakes but also a variety of items on the Vietnamese offering tray such as rice wine, sticky rice, fruit, fresh cut flowers; roasted pork, whole boiled chicken... are also sold by businesses in pre-cooked combos, beautifully decorated to bring convenience to people, saving time and costs of buying each product separately; in which, sticky rice wine products are priced at 65,000 VND/500gr box; sticky rice wine products are priced at 75,000 VND/500gr box; or sticky rice wine products are priced at 35,000 VND/250gr.

Similarly, the supply of imported fruit products to the Ho Chi Minh City market is quite abundant, especially those in the main harvest season such as mangosteen, durian, rambutan, avocado, lychee, plum...
Therefore, during this year's Doan Ngo Festival, consumers in the city have the opportunity to shop for a variety of products for the offering tray, as well as enjoy many types of delicious and ripe domestic fruits.
In particular, some modern distribution channels such as the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Trading Cooperatives ( Saigon Co.op ) have signed agreements with cooperatives in the northern provinces and cities on the consumption of Luc Ngan lychees, both accompanying lychee farmers and bringing quality lychees at good prices to consumers.
At the same time, Saigon Co.op also organizes promotional programs, introducing lychees throughout the distribution system; coordinates with a number of media agencies to implement programs to stimulate demand for Vietnamese agricultural products...
Regarding the strategy of consuming Vietnamese agricultural products, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thang, Deputy General Director of Saigon Co.op, also said that with a nationwide network, Saigon Co.op is not only a purely Vietnamese retail brand but also aims to serve the interests of the community, gradually becoming a bridge to bring high-quality OCOP agricultural products closer to consumers. Particularly for lychee, this year Saigon Co.op plans to increase consumption output by 20% compared to the same period.
Ms. My Ngoc, a resident in Phu Nhuan District, Ho Chi Minh City, pointed out that for food and agricultural products, consumers should shop at reputable businesses to ensure the origin and freshness of the products.
Because the goods purchased serve the needs of the Doan Ngo Festival, the quality and appearance of the product is an important issue for all families.
According to Ms. Anh Dao, worshiping on the Duanwu Festival and eating special dishes are considered a way to "kill insects," detoxify and purify the body, helping people live healthy and in harmony with nature, so depending on each region, the way to prepare the Duanwu Festival offering tray is different.
In recent years, families have prioritized choosing online shopping channels of supermarkets, e-commerce platforms, social networks, etc. to be able to order offerings such as combo trays according to their needs, as well as home delivery.
Meanwhile, many other consumers in Ho Chi Minh City also shared that they prefer to shop for offerings for the Doan Ngo Festival at reputable locations, because although price is important in the context of people tightening their spending, the most important factor is still the quality of goods, especially for food and agricultural products.
On the other hand, during holidays/Tet, these locations also stimulate consumption by offering promotions, discounts and incentives for customers, so consumers stay loyal over the years./.
