Ha Long is implementing the project "Ha Long - City of Flowers" for the period 2024-2030 with a total investment of over 300 billion VND, developing flower spaces on more than 65 main roads. Streets such as Tran Quoc Nghien, Hoang Quoc Viet, and the coastal road Ha Long - Cam Pha are brilliant with flowers, creating a highlight to attract tourists. The city not only grows flowers but also combines flowers with tourist destinations, creating unique experiences, and at the same time planning coastal areas with special flower gardens.
According to Mr. Tran Dang An, Director of Halotour (Ha Long City), investing in flower landscapes will help diversify tourism products, enhance visitor experiences and increase the city's brand value. In addition, parks such as Sun World and Ha Long Flower Park are planned to become venues for seasonal flower festivals. The flower village model is also being developed, encouraging the community to participate in landscape care, creating unique check-in points. According to a survey, 80% of visitors expressed interest in this model, of which 60% want to return in different flower seasons.
In addition to the flower city, Ha Long City also integrates flowers into the natural landscape of Ha Long Bay. The Ha Long Bay Management Board has planted nearly 800 trees, including endemic species such as Ha Long cycads, trai ly, cotton wood, and lady's slipper, helping to green the limestone islands. Areas such as Hon Co have been developed into endemic botanical gardens, providing attractive check-in spots.
In fact, the flower tourism model has brought many positive results in all localities in the province. Quang La flower paradise (Quang La commune, Ha Long city) attracts tourists thanks to seasonal flower gardens such as daisies, roses, yellow mustard flowers, combined with agricultural tourism, opening services such as artistic photography, coffee shops in the flower garden. Cao Son flower garden (Binh Lieu) is also a prominent destination with brilliant flower carpets. Spread over 18,000m², there are more than 60 varieties of flowers such as dancing orchids, hydrangeas, sunflowers, gerberas, along with So flower festivals attracting more than 100,000 visitors each year.
Uong Bi City also promotes the development of eco-tourism at the foot of Yen Tu Mountain, combining flower fields with the production of medicinal plants. The city has implemented many flower planting movements such as Yen Tu yellow apricot, bougainvillea, and woody flowers, contributing to creating a brilliant landscape. Residential areas and businesses join hands to build flower gardens and flower parks, aiming to become a "City of 4 flower seasons". Dong Trieu is also developing many flower tourism models and flower villages, creating unique landscape highlights. According to experts, developing flower tourism not only brings aesthetic value but also stimulates tourists' spending. Flower streets combined with coastal spaces create an attractive eco-tourism experience.
Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Hong Long, Head of the Faculty of Tourism Studies (University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University, Hanoi) commented: Tours combining sightseeing in the city of flowers and enjoying Ha Long Bay will certainly attract many tourists, especially international tourists. If developed properly, this will be a sustainable and unique tourism product". Many tourists also expressed their excitement when experiencing the brilliant flower roads, especially during the festival season. "Ha Long not only has the sea, big festivals but also has beautiful flower spaces, an experience worth trying. We will come back during the tourist season, flower season to experience it" - Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Anh (tourist from Nam Tu Liem district, Hanoi) said.
However, for sustainable development, a specific strategy is needed. Some challenges need to be addressed such as landscape maintenance costs, the impact of weather on flowers, and community participation in flower space conservation. In addition, it is necessary to properly plan flower growing areas, cooperate with travel agencies to build seasonal tours, and promote images through flower events. At the same time, it is necessary to ensure environmental protection to maintain ecological balance.
With proper investment, Ha Long is affirming its position as not only a center of sea and island tourism. And if there is a sustainable development strategy, flower tourism will become one of the typical products, helping Quang Ninh increase its competitiveness and attract tourists from all over the world.
