Gymnastics wins first gold medal, helps Vietnam close in on Thailand in rankings

(BDO) The gold medal won by the men's gymnastics team on the afternoon of May 8 helped the Vietnamese Sports Delegation stay close to Thailand on the medal tally of the 32nd SEA Games.

On the very first day of competition at the 32nd SEA Games, the gymnastics team brought home the first gold medal in the all-around team event. The athletes including Dinh Phuong Thanh, Le Thanh Tung, Dang Ngoc Xuan Thien, Van Vi Luong, Nguyen Van Khanh Phong and Trinh Hai Khang competed impressively, achieving 313 points, 305.25 points higher than the Philippines and 295.5 points higher than Malaysia, thereby excellently winning the first gold medal.

Previously, the Vovinam athlete couple Nguyen Thi Hoai Nuong and Nguyen Hoang Du won the gold medal in the self-defense event with the highest score. Before that, Vovinam also won 2 silver medals in the elite team event of men's dual swordsmanship, including martial artists: Nguyen Hoang Tan, Huynh Khac Nguyen, Le Duc Anh, Nguyen Manh Phi, Lam Tri Linh and Huynh Khac Nguyen in the individual event.

With these two gold medals, the Vietnamese sports delegation currently has 18 gold medals, losing to Thailand by 1 gold medal. Starting from 4 pm on May 8, Vietnamese athletics will compete in a total of 7 final events. This is considered the "gold mine" of the Vietnamese sports delegation for the day, hoping to leave behind its two opponents Thailand and Indonesia on the medal table, rising to 2nd place.
