Some images circulating on TikTok about the Ho Chi Minh City National University's competency assessment exam having a "new structure"
There is also a picture of the "document"
To date, Ho Chi Minh City National University has not yet officially announced information about the exam and sample questions for assessing capacity from 2025. Currently, Ho Chi Minh City National University only said that the structure of the capacity assessment exam will remain the same with 3 parts: language use; mathematics, logic and data analysis; problem solving. However, many TikTok channels have recently continuously posted "latest updates" about this exam.
For example, in a video that attracted nearly 55,000 views and was posted on September 8, account Đ.HE stated that the structure of the Ho Chi Minh City National University's competency assessment exam has up to... 5 parts, instead of just 3 parts as announced by the exam organizer. The specific exam parts are Vietnamese; English; math, logic and data processing; natural sciences (physics, chemistry and biology); social sciences (history, geography, economic education and law).
According to this account, each part will consist of 30 questions, "candidates can choose one of two (natural sciences and social sciences) or take both". In the comment section, when receiving questions from candidates about the fact that Ho Chi Minh City National University once said that they could randomly choose 3 out of 6 groups of knowledge fields, this account only responded generally: "It's just a simulation structure so it might still be okay".
Similarly, the account VLTĐ with 38.2 thousand followers also regularly posts a lot of content related to the competency assessment exam of Ho Chi Minh City National University. In a video with 198.3 thousand views, this account posts information about the new structure of the exam with an image of an official document said to be from the Center for Testing and Assessment of Training Quality (Ho Chi Minh City National University).
According to the information from the official dispatch, Ho Chi Minh City National University said that the structure of the exam also has 5 parts, similar to the information of the D.HE account. The official dispatch also said that it will add questions to assess the language proficiency framework of candidates. As for the problem-solving part, the exam will divide the question content into groups of natural sciences and social sciences for candidates to do.
The photo of the document also shows that Ho Chi Minh City National University is considering two options for organizing the exam. One is to let candidates take 150 questions in 180 minutes, with the exam scores announced according to 5 separate components. The second is that candidates choose to take the natural sciences or social sciences exam, the exam will only have 120 questions in 150 minutes and the exam scores will be announced according to the 4 components that the candidates have chosen.
A TikTok account posted information that candidates will have to choose a combination if they want to take the competency assessment test.
The BQĐ... account with 1.3 million followers on TikTok even posted information confirming that the Ho Chi Minh City National University's capacity assessment exam will be divided into 13 different groups, and candidates can only register for one group to take the exam. In the video attracting more than 140,000 views, this account confidently said: "Do you know anything? It has just been announced, guys, 13 groups (capacity assessment - PV) for you to choose from."
"I advise you to choose combinations that have physics, chemistry, plus another subject, you guys can be comfortable... Because why, guys, history and geography are very difficult to get into schools and they have a very small percentage... It's only 1% for you guys to be able to get into economics or engineering majors", commented account BQĐ...
Candidates confused, teachers angry
P.D.D, a student at a high school in District 3, Ho Chi Minh City, told Thanh Nien that he was confused when he saw the above information, especially when he could not find any related information in the press. "Some of my friends also said that next year's capacity assessment exam must choose two social subjects and one natural subject, I don't know what to do," the male student confessed.
P.Đ.Đ is not the only one who feels confused by the information on TikTok. A test preparation teacher in Ho Chi Minh City said that in recent days, he has continuously received messages from students asking about "renewal of the structure of the competency assessment test". "You are very confused because some parties even posted pictures of official documents said to be from Ho Chi Minh City National University, which look very real", the male teacher lamented.
"According to my current updates, Ho Chi Minh City National University only informed that candidates will be able to choose 3/6 subjects in the data processing section, not divided into two groups of social or natural sciences as some parties shared. The fact that you guys create false content for the sake of 'views' will greatly affect the reputation of the exam as well as the mentality of students, when many students 'bet' everything on this exam for university admission", the teacher shared.
This teacher also expressed hope that Ho Chi Minh City National University will soon announce official information about the exam and sample questions, especially in the context that Hanoi National University has provided similar content since August. "Many of my students really hope to have a clear direction on whether to divide the exam into blocks or not so that they can focus on reviewing, instead of spreading out across all subjects," the teacher confided.
What does Ho Chi Minh City National University say?
Sharing with Thanh Nien this afternoon (September 30), Dr. Nguyen Quoc Chinh, Director of the Center for Testing and Training Quality Assessment (Ho Chi Minh City National University), affirmed that the information circulating on the internet about the 2025 competency assessment exam as above is incorrect.
"Ho Chi Minh City National University did not issue any official dispatch to solicit opinions on the draft structure of the 2025 capacity assessment exam. The information that the exam consists of 5 parts, 13 combinations... is incorrect," Dr. Chinh emphasized.
Students taking the first round of capacity assessment exam in 2024
Sharing more, Dr. Nguyen Quoc Chinh said that the sample test for the 2025 capacity assessment exam of Ho Chi Minh City National University will closely follow the orientation announced last year. Specifically, the structure of the Ho Chi Minh City National University capacity assessment exam from 2025 will still include 3 parts: language use; mathematics, logic and data analysis; problem solving.
Part 1 and Part 2 basically remain stable as before, candidates are required to answer all questions of 2 parts of the exam. The adjustment of the exam structure is in Part 3 when candidates are allowed to randomly choose 3 out of 6 groups of knowledge fields including: physics, chemistry, biology, history, geography, economic education and law.
Thus, compared to the structure of the competency assessment test from 2024 and earlier, the structure of the test from 2025 will have 2 new points. First is the appearance of a new group of fields appearing in the 2018 General Education Program related to economic and legal education. Second, candidates can choose the exam subjects instead of being required to answer all questions in part 3 like the old test.
"Candidates have the right to choose any 3 out of 6 subjects, not forced to choose between subjects in the natural science or social science exam as spread information", the Director of the Center for Testing and Assessment of Training Quality (Ho Chi Minh City National University) affirmed.
