Entrance exam to specialized schools in Hanoi: Fierce competition, some subjects are 1 vs. nearly 25

According to data released by the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, this year more than 16,000 candidates registered to take the entrance exam to four specialized high schools: Hanoi Amsterdam High School for the Gifted; Chu Van An High School for the Gifted; Nguyen Hue High School for the Gifted and Son Tay High School for the Gifted.

Among them, Hanoi Amsterdam High School for the Gifted and Chu Van An High School for the Gifted still maintain their appeal with a large number of registered candidates and high competition rates.

The 10th grade entrance exam in Hanoi takes place from June 6-7, and candidates will take specialized subjects from June 8.

Among all the subjects of the schools, the Chinese class of Chu Van An High School for the Gifted has the highest competition ratio of 1/24.5, which means that for every 25 candidates who register, only 1 is admitted. Following that is the Russian class of Nguyen Hue High School for the Gifted with a competition ratio of 1/21.6 and the English class of Chu Van An High School with a competition ratio of 1/19.8.

By school, this year at Hanoi Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, the subject with the highest competition ratio is Russian (1/15.6); the subject with the lowest competition ratio is French (1/1.26). The competition ratios for Math, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology range from 2 to nearly 4.

Chu Van An High School for the Gifted has a very high competition rate after Chinese, with an average of nearly 1 in 20 students applying for admission. Computer Science and Literature also have a competition rate of over 10. Meanwhile, classes such as Korean, French, and Geography have low competition rates, with the French class having a competition rate of 1/1.49.

Meanwhile, Nguyen Hue High School for the Gifted has extremely high competition rates for French and English classes. French class (1/15.7); English class 1/18.9.

Among the 4 specialized schools, Son Tay High School has the lowest competition ratio, ranging from 1 to nearly 6 classes. Of which, Physics class has the lowest competition ratio with 1/1.13; followed by Math with a competition ratio of 1/2.14; History 1/2.19...

To apply to specialized schools, candidates must go through a preliminary round of application and transcripts.

Preliminary score = Excellent student exam score + academic record (high school score with good or excellent academic performance).

The admission score for specialized grade 10 is the total score of three subjects Math, Literature, Foreign Language, plus the specialized subject multiplied by a coefficient of two.

In addition to 3 wishes to enter non-specialized high school grade 10, each candidate can register for a maximum of two specialized classes, as long as the exam schedules do not overlap.
