On the afternoon of March 16, the Andrology Center, Viet Duc Hospital ( Hanoi ) reported a case of testicular torsion that was not treated early, causing a 14-year-old boy (in Thai Binh ) to have one testicle removed.
According to the family, when the patient experienced unusual pain and swelling in the testicles, he was treated locally. The patient underwent 13 days of intravenous antibiotic treatment, but the pain symptoms did not improve, so the family transferred the patient to Viet Duc Hospital for treatment.

Doctor Nguyen Duy Khanh, Center for Andrology, Viet Duc Hospital, said that the patient was admitted to the hospital with a high, hard right testicle, ultrasound showed loss of all vascular signals, central necrosis... Doctors performed emergency surgery, removed the right testicle because it was necrotic and no longer functional, and fixed the patient's left testicle.
According to Associate Professor Nguyen Quang, Director of the Andrology Center, Viet Duc Hospital, President of the Vietnam Association of Gender Medicine, signs of testicular torsion are easily misdiagnosed as testicular tumors and orchitis.
When diagnosed with another disease, people can treat pain and give intravenous fluids while the disease is actually testicular torsion. If the torsion lasts more than 6 hours, the testicle will become necrotic and cannot be preserved. Orchiectomy is necessary in cases of late testicular torsion.
Therefore, for men, when there is unusual testicular pain, even pain in the lower abdomen, doctors examining the patient clinically need to rule out the cause of testicular torsion first to avoid missing the injury.
