Responsibility from the first days in the army
Comrade Nguyen Tien Son joined the army in 2003, when the country was entering a period of strong innovation, with many requirements placed on the medical force in the process of building a modern, disciplined, and elite army. Right from the first days of joining the army, Son soon demonstrated his mettle, his spirit of continuous learning, and his dedication to the medical profession, a profession that is both highly scientific and deeply humane.
After completing the training program, he was assigned to work at the Institute of Clinical Infectious Diseases - the leading unit in infectious diseases in the Army. With solid knowledge, sense of responsibility and serious working attitude, Son quickly affirmed his expertise, especially in the field of respiratory diseases, which always poses a high risk for the medical team directly in contact and treatment.

In fact, the work at the Department of Respiratory Infectious Diseases has always required caution and thoroughness, and during the Covid-19 outbreak, the pressure on people like Son has multiplied many times. During the prolonged pandemic, he was one of the key factors in the care and treatment of severe and critical Covid-19 patients at the Covid-19 Intensive Care Center.
When the Covid-19 epidemic broke out in late 2020, Comrade Son volunteered to join the inner circle to directly care for and treat severe and critical Covid-19 patients. He was also assigned as the team leader for the treatment and care of the inner circle. There were long nights of emergency care for many serious cases, but with the spirit of determination to push back the epidemic, he always worked with a high sense of responsibility and always put the patient first.
For him, each case is a new challenge, but also an opportunity to hone his soldierly spirit, ready to face danger for the health of soldiers and people. Many times he and his teammates stayed up all night to take care of seriously ill patients, handle dangerous emergency situations, and come up with appropriate and effective treatment regimens. He also actively studies to improve his professional skills, updating new knowledge in the field of infectious diseases.
The image of a sunburned doctor: Crystallization from hard work
Recently, Major Nguyen Tien Son was one of the soldiers selected to join the Basic Surgical Team of the 108th Military Central Hospital. This is a special mobile force, established with the goal of being ready to perform medical missions in all conditions, from the battlefield to natural disasters and catastrophes.

Participating in this formation requires a solid grasp of medical knowledge as well as endurance, a steely spirit, combat skills and the ability to adapt to field conditions. During the practical training in June 2025, Major Nguyen Tien Son and his teammates directly participated in digging tunnels, setting up tents, and installing field medical systems in harsh weather conditions, all of which created an image of a military medic who is not only "good at his profession" but also "firm on the training ground".

Despite being sunburned and sweating profusely, Son's eyes still showed determination and pride in participating in a special training mission, preparing for situations where a medic must be the first to be present to save lives.
"During his time working at the Hospital, Major Nguyen Tien Son has always been a pioneer in professional tasks. He constantly updates his specialized knowledge and actively participates in training courses for nurses... Not only is he skilled and has many years of experience in caring for and monitoring patients with severe infectious diseases, he is also loved by his teammates and patients for his simplicity and dedication. He always treats patients as relatives, is willing to listen, share and find ways to make patients feel secure during treatment. To his colleagues, he is an exemplary elder brother, strict but sincere, always standing side by side to guide his juniors in each operation, always helping his teammates when needed", Colonel, Doctor, Doctor Vu Viet Sang, Head of the Department shared when asked about Mr. Son.
Someone once compared Major Nguyen Tien Son to a “multi-talented nurse” of the Institute of Clinical Infectious Diseases, because he was not only an active member of the mobile field team, but also an example of tireless dedication. During mobile medical examinations and treatment, supporting remote areas, ensuring military medical staff for conferences and ceremonies welcoming heads of state inside and outside the Army, he always volunteered to participate.
In addition, the journeys through forests and streams, reaching people in difficult areas, helping them better understand infectious diseases, disease prevention and initial treatment are things he believes are necessary and meaningful. In particular, in 2012, comrade Son was honored to be assigned to work at the Song Tu Tay Island Infirmary, Truong Sa archipelago. After 18 months of working on the island, he successfully completed his mission and returned.
Comrade Son shared: “To be a nurse in the Army, in addition to being good at your profession, you must also have a fighting spirit. Fighting against illness, against harsh circumstances and sometimes, against yourself, overcoming fatigue, overcoming fear, to always be calm, alert and fulfill your responsibilities as a doctor.”
After more than 20 years in the army, Major Nguyen Tien Son still maintains the spirit of “serving the people”, continuing to be a shining example for the young generation of nurses to follow. And no matter what position he holds, as a doctor in the hospital room or a soldier on the front line, he always lives up to the Hippocratic oath and Uncle Ho's teachings: .
