Farmers in Tho Tan commune take care of and restore peach gardens to prepare for the 2026 Tet crop.
These days, farmers in Tho Tan commune are busy taking care of and restoring peach gardens to prepare for the 2026 Tet crop. Mr. Hoang Xuan Kiem - one of the owners of the largest peach gardens in village 3, Tho Tan commune, shared: "After researching and studying in localities specializing in peach growing, I realized that peach varieties in the North are suitable for the climate and soil conditions in Tho Tan; along with that, the demand for buying and renting peach trees for Tet is increasing, so in recent years, my family has focused on growing peach trees. Thanks to 10 years of experience in growing peach trees, my family's garden now has more than 300 peach trees that are growing well and stably; including many ancient peach trees that are several decades old. Therefore, during Tet, my family's peach garden attracts many people and tourists from near and far to visit, learn and buy peach trees for Tet, bringing in a stable income of 300 to 400 million VND/year".
To develop the economy and increase people's income, Tho Tan commune has focused on propaganda and encouraging people to boldly change the structure of crops and livestock towards commodities, forming value chains in agricultural production. At the same time, ineffective rice-growing land and mixed gardens have been converted to peach trees. Actively responding to the commune's policy, Tho Tan commune's people have proactively exchanged fields, consolidated plots, researched and learned from each other's experiences to develop and care for peach trees. Up to now, the whole commune has converted 45 hectares of ineffective rice-growing land and mixed gardens to peach trees with hundreds of households participating. With an average revenue of 800 million to 1.2 billion VND/ha, after deducting expenses, each year peach-growing households have a profit of 500 - 700 million VND/ha. It is worth mentioning that, not only growing peach trees to sell, selling branches and renting peach trees for Tet, local people also receive additional services of taking care of peach trees after Tet. This does not require capital investment and has a stable source of income, without having to "fearfully" find an outlet for peach trees every season.
Along with the development of agricultural production, industry, small-scale industry, trade and services are always identified by the commune as one of the key tasks contributing to stabilizing people's lives. Therefore, the commune actively propagates and mobilizes people to invest capital and machinery to expand production and business establishments, develop diverse industries and occupations in terms of scale, quantity and design to meet the needs and tastes of consumers such as: Mechanics, woodworking, household furniture, iron doors of all kinds, aluminum and glass, agricultural processing, transportation services, land preparation machines, transplanters... Currently, the whole commune has 120 individual production and business establishments, 35 households providing car services for transporting goods and passengers, creating stable jobs and income for nearly 400 local workers.
Thanks to the full exploitation of the local potential and strengths, Tho Tan has created internal strength to successfully implement socio-economic development goals and renew the rural appearance. In 2024, the average income per capita of the commune will reach 65 million VND, an increase of 13 million VND/year compared to 2023. Poverty reduction, vocational training, and job creation policies have been deployed and implemented synchronously and effectively: the poverty rate has decreased to 0.83%. The commune is recognized as meeting health standards... The improvement of people's lives is an important basis for the locality to mobilize resources to invest in upgrading infrastructure, developing socio-culture, and building new rural areas.
Party Secretary and Chairman of the People's Council of Tho Tan Commune, Hoang My Phuoc, said: “Along with the development of agriculture, forestry and fishery in the direction of large-scale, sustainable commodity production, associated with product preservation, processing and consumption, the commune continues to encourage people to accumulate and concentrate land for large-scale agricultural production, apply high technology and convert inefficient rice-growing land and renovate mixed gardens to peach growing. Create all favorable conditions for businesses to maximize their existing production capacity, invest in upgrading and expanding production scale. Encourage and call on businesses that employ a lot of labor to invest in the area to solve employment problems, contributing to increasing people's income in a sustainable way.”
