The 14th annual World Economic Forum (WEF) Pioneers Meeting, also known as the "Summer Davos Forum", took place in Tianjin, China (WEF Tianjin) from June 27 to 29.
With the theme "Enterprise: The driving force of the global economy," the conference received widespread attention from the international community and attracted the participation of more than 1,500 delegates, including leaders, representatives of political , economic, academic, social and international organizations.
The fact that Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh led the Vietnamese delegation to attend the 14th annual World Economic Forum (WEF) Pioneers Meeting held in Tianjin, China, shows that Vietnam is becoming an active partner of the international community in efforts to shape the future, and is also a destination highly appreciated by global businesses, especially WEF members.
Vietnam's mark at WEF
WEF (World Economic Forum) is one of the prestigious and effective global forums, attracting the attention and participation of most leaders of major countries, international organizations as well as the world's leading corporations and companies.
Every year, WEF organizes many global and regional forums, bringing together government leaders, business leaders, social and religious organizations, and scholars from around the world to discuss prominent issues and global news.
The cooperative relationship between Vietnam and WEF began in 1989, right at the time when the economic reform process began. This is an important dialogue forum between the Vietnamese Government leaders and the world's leading corporations, helping to suggest ideas for economic reform, while providing Vietnam with opportunities for investment and domestic economic development.
Over the past 34 years, senior leaders of Vietnam have regularly attended the WEF Annual Meetings in Davos, Switzerland and East Asia.
Vietnam has attended the WEF Davos Conference 4 times at the Prime Minister level (in 2007, 2010, 2017 and 2019) and usually attended at the Deputy Prime Minister level; attended the WEF ASEAN Conference 5 times (before 2016, it was the WEF East Asia) at the Prime Minister level (in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2017 and 2018) and usually attended at the Deputy Prime Minister level in other years...

Vietnam always shows dynamism, actively proposes new ideas, and implements practical cooperation plans.
Vietnam's notable mark is that it coordinated with WEF to organize the World Economic Forum on East Asia in 2010 in Ho Chi Minh City; the World Economic Forum on Mekong in 2016 in Hanoi; the World Economic Forum on ASEAN in 2018; and the first Vietnam-WEF National Strategy Dialogue (online) in October 2021.
Strengthening cooperation through programs, projects and attending WEF conferences, and successfully coordinating events has helped Vietnam attract investment, promote the country's image, strengthen relations with global corporations, update new trends, and advanced development and management thinking.
Attending the conference as a reliable partner and responsible member of the international community, Vietnam will actively contribute and coordinate with international partners to solve global issues to maintain and promote regional and world economic growth.
This is an opportunity for Vietnam to share and exchange with leaders, heads of governments of countries, leaders of international organizations, leading experts and scholars in the world on global and regional issues of common concern, as well as to strengthen connection activities and expand partnerships, thereby contributing to enhancing Vietnam's position in regional and global supply chains.
The dynamics of the global economy and Vietnam's message
WEF Tianjin is the second largest conference after WEF Davos (Switzerland). This conference with the theme: "Enterprise: The driving force of the global economy" has received widespread attention from the international community.
The conference took place in the context of the global economy facing many challenges and being negatively impacted by the complex and unpredictable developments of the world situation.
The issue of regional and global supply chains, which have faced many obstacles and difficulties since the COVID-19 pandemic, continues to be a matter of concern around the world, a factor hindering the recovery and development of regional and global economies.
According to the Organizing Committee, the core objective of the 14th Annual World Economic Forum (WEF) Pioneers Meeting is to stimulate innovation and entrepreneurship in Asia and the world. From there, it aims to find a path to recovery, healthy and sustainable economic development, along with assessing the economic prospects of China as well as the entire Asian region.
This conference has more than 100 sessions, focusing on issues such as growth adjustment, energy and raw material transition, nature and climate protection, post-pandemic consumption, China in the global context, and innovation application.
According to Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Vu, WEF Tianjin is an extremely important conference taking place in the context of a regional and global economic downturn and countries are seeking every way to promote new growth drivers for economic recovery.
In the current difficult economic context, the participation of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, the Vietnamese high-ranking delegation and Vietnamese enterprises this time will contribute significantly to the overall success of the conference, including three aspects.
Firstly, Vietnam is a developing, transitioning and highly open economy. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will call on the regional and global business community as well as governments in the current increasingly difficult context to strengthen cooperation, open up the market for trade and investment, actively support businesses and unlock resources to restore the economy which is currently on a downward trend.
Second, through this Conference, the Prime Minister will share experiences and learn from the experiences and lessons of other member economies as well as large enterprises in creating, activating and exploiting new growth drivers such as digital transformation, green transformation, energy transformation, and circular economic development to contribute to realizing rapid, sustainable, inclusive and innovative growth models based on science and technology and bringing many practical benefits to the people.
Third, through this very important conference, with the participation of the Government and leading regional and international enterprises, the Prime Minister will call on the global business community to continue to pay attention and increase further investment in the Vietnamese market and the Vietnamese economy.
The Prime Minister will highlight the positions, potentials and advantages of the Vietnamese economy as well as the priority directions in economic development of the Vietnamese Government, especially priority areas to attract high-quality investment resources and leading enterprises to participate in mutually beneficial cooperation in areas such as green transformation, digital transformation, education, energy, science and technology development, circular economy development and digital economy.
In his speech at the conference, the Prime Minister will make a number of recommendations related to public-private partnership models, coordination models between the Government and enterprises, as well as measures to attract green and sustainable financial sources into the Vietnamese economy.
According to Vietnamese Ambassador to China Pham Sao Mai, within the framework of the 2023 WEF Tianjin Conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will attend and speak, sharing Vietnam's vision at the Plenary Session "Coping with Headwinds: Restarting Growth in a Fragile Context" and the Leaders' Working Lunch on "Preventing a Lost Decade." These are all key discussion sessions on the conference's agenda, receiving attention from countries, organizations and the international business community.

On the occasion of attending the conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and WEF leaders will co-chair the Vietnam-WEF National Strategy Dialogue, attend the Vietnam-China Business Forum and have meetings with leaders of countries and corporations attending the conference.
The participation of the Vietnamese delegation along with leading countries, organizations and corporations in the world will contribute to proposing solutions at global, regional, national and business levels, emphasizing the role of the private sector and public-private partnership, promoting new growth drivers such as green development, digital transformation, innovation, etc.
The Asian region, especially China, India and ASEAN, including Vietnam, has recently actively innovated and opened up, maintained stable growth momentum, and become an important driving force for economic recovery and development in the region and the world, while playing the role of a center for trade, investment, and global supply chain linkages.
Attending the WEF Tianjin 2023 Conference with messages about new economic growth drivers is also an opportunity for Vietnam to share achievements, experiences, development orientations, and seek to strengthen cooperation between WEF, countries, international organizations, and global and regional corporations to help Vietnam achieve socio-economic development goals and transform its growth model.
The World Economic Forum was first known in January 1971 as the Global Governance Forum (EMF), when a group of leading European businesses met under the auspices of the European Commission and the European Chamber of Commerce. Headed by Klaus Schwab, Professor of Business Policy at the University of Geneva, the meeting was held in Davos, Switzerland. Since 1987, the EMF has been renamed the World Economic Forum (WEF). The forum is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland and includes about 1,000 of the world's leading corporations and companies. To date, the most important forum of the WEF is the Annual Conference held every January in Davos, Switzerland. In addition to the Davos Conference, the WEF also organizes regional forums every year, typically the WEF Conference on East Asia (now WEF ASEAN), the annual WEF Pioneers Conference - "Summer Davos Forum" (held in Tianjin or Dalian, China), the WEF Conference on India, the WEF Conference on Latin America, the WEF Conference on the Middle East, etc. These are all great opportunities for delegates to discuss global and regional issues of mutual concern, as well as strengthen networking activities and expand partnerships. |
