Ms. Tammy Bruce emphasized that the policy of encouraging international students to apply for US student visas has not changed. The recent suspension is only an administrative adjustment, to ensure that the examination and approval process at consulates and embassies is carried out more strictly and in accordance with regulations.
"This will be a quick review, not a lengthy process. I hope to have more details by Thursday," said Tammy Bruce.
Previously, some people said they had successfully registered for a student visa interview appointment at the US Embassy in Hanoi at noon on June 10, but by the end of the day they received a notice of cancellation.
Applicants who have scheduled an appointment before the US announced the postponement will still have their interview scheduled as usual.
The US's temporary suspension of student visa renewal applications is affecting many people, not just new international students or tourists.
Experts recommend that at the present time, Vietnamese students studying abroad should consider carefully before deciding to return home. To ensure safe re-entry to the US, the prerequisite is that your visa is still valid. If your visa has expired or is about to expire, returning to Vietnam at this time can cause many risks and difficulties in returning to the US.
The suspension of scheduling new US visa interviews began on May 27. It has now lasted 15 days.
According to a memo sent to U.S. diplomatic missions around the world, the U.S. Department of State is reviewing its current practices and procedures for screening and vetting student and exchange (F, M, J) visa applicants. Based on that review, the U.S. plans to issue guidance on expanding social media screening to all applicants.
