The participation of enterprises (DN) in association with farmers to build a chain of HC production links has opened up opportunities to develop HC agriculture in a sustainable direction, contributing to building the brand of local agricultural products with prestige and quality.
Change in production perception
Consumers are increasingly interested in clean agricultural products, ensuring food safety is the driving force for many farmers to boldly convert production towards HC. In particular, farmers have had many creative ways to produce clean products at low cost.
Head of the Bau Ham 2 Avocado Cooperative - Quang Trung (in Bau Ham 2 commune, Thong Nhat district) Pham Duy Long shared that the local exposed rocky land with a higher proportion of rocks than soil, previously only allowed cultivation of annual crops or drought-resistant, easy-to-grow crops with low economic efficiency. To improve the soil to switch to growing specialty crops, local farmers pay great attention to improving the soil to make it more and more fertile. There are many solutions to enrich the soil and take care of crops at low cost. Specifically, many farmers grow grass in avocado and durian gardens to make the soil more porous. They also take advantage of agricultural by-products such as bananas and HC waste to compost HC to take care of their crops. These solutions help farmers save on fertilizer costs. But the most important thing is to make the soil healthy, the plants healthy, so the crop yield in this exposed rocky land is very high, the older the tree, the more fruit it bears, without the situation of exhausted trees, the outbreak of diseases when overusing fertilizers and chemicals like before.
Old farmer Nguyen Thanh Phuoc (residing in Hung Loc commune) has held many positions such as Director of Thong Nhat Cocoa Cooperative, Head of Loc Thinh Jackfruit Cooperative with the HC jackfruit growing model, currently he is developing the HC mangosteen growing model. After many years of working with the garden, changing through many production models, Mr. Phuoc still maintains the viewpoint of clean and HC agricultural production.
According to Mr. Phuoc, the transition to HC production is simply that farmers are conscious of prioritizing the use of HC fertilizers. In particular, farmers can take advantage of existing waste and by-products in the locality as fertilizers for crops to gradually reduce the use of chemical fertilizers. In pest control, farmers prioritize the use of biological drugs, biological preparations or manual methods to prevent pests and diseases for crops, to ensure the safety of agricultural products.
It is the change in farmers' awareness that has made HC production models in Thong Nhat district continuously replicated. In particular, many effective production models have become pilot models for farmers in the district and the province to learn and follow. Specifically, the HC grapefruit farming model of farmer Nguyen Van Tuan's household in Hung Loc commune with 0.9 hectares has been recognized by the Vietnam HC Agriculture Association for its outstanding achievements in developing grapefruit products according to HC standards. The Doc Mo Farm Cooperative model (in Gia Tan 3 commune) with a scale of 14 hectares of agricultural production combined with eco-tourism has also been praised by the Vietnam HC Agriculture Association for its outstanding achievements in developing the ecological agricultural model - HC.
Up to now, Thong Nhat district has formed 9 HC agricultural production points with an area of nearly 71 hectares. Of which, there are 2 HC production models on grapefruit and vegetables; 33 agricultural production models in the direction of HC are being implemented; 75 production and consumption chains of key agricultural products are being implemented.
To make organic production no longer fragmented
One of the difficulties in replicating the HC production model and achieving HC standards is that farmers must comply with very strict production standards, especially in the early stages of conversion, when they encounter many difficulties such as: lower productivity, designs that are not as attractive as products using chemical fertilizers and pesticides... One of the reasons is that HC production is still small-scale and fragmented, and products are not yet recognized in the market, so they are often sold at normal prices.

Accordingly, Thong Nhat district is very interested in attracting enterprises to invest in the HC production chain for sustainable development. This is also the reason why in recent times, Thong Nhat district has cooperated with Que Lam Group Joint Stock Company to implement HC-oriented farming and livestock models. Up to now, the pilot models of HC-oriented production with some key crops of the district such as green-skinned grapefruit, durian, and mangosteen have initially shown results.
Director of Lac Son Rambutan - Durian Cooperative (in Quang Trung commune) Nguyen Duy Cuong said that the cooperative has now developed more than 120 hectares of durian. The cooperative is implementing a pilot model of growing durian in the direction of HC of Que Lam Group, applying the 5 no standards: no herbicides; no preservatives; no chemical pesticides; no toxic chemical residues; no growth stimulants. Participating in this model, farmers are transferred technology by the enterprise and guided on the HC production process; applying Que Lam's microbiological preparations to process grass, agricultural by-products, and livestock waste into HC fertilizer. Farmers are supported by the enterprise with 50% of HC fertilizer. What makes farmers feel secure is that the enterprise commits to support the output of agricultural products.
