On September 23, Deputy Foreign Minister Do Hung Viet attended the Global Governance Group (also known as the 3G Group) Ministerial Meeting, held on the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly High-Level Week in New York, USA.

Chaired by the Singaporean Foreign Minister, the conference was attended by ministers of the three Troika G20 countries (India, Brazil, South Africa - G20 Chairs in 2023, 2024 and 2025 respectively) and many ministers and senior representatives from 30 3G member countries.

Delegates appreciated Brazil's invitation to all UN members to attend the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting for the first time, noting that this was a very meaningful initiative, contributing to linking the G20 agenda with the UN, as well as spreading the message of promoting the openness and inclusiveness of multilateralism.

The conference welcomed and affirmed the commitment to jointly implement and realize the results of the Future Summit. Many opinions emphasized the urgent need to reform global governance institutions, especially the mechanisms of the United Nations, multilateral development banks and international financial institutions, to effectively mobilize resources for developing countries to implement sustainable development goals and address challenges in the new context.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister Do Hung Viet highly appreciated Singapore's continued hosting of the 3G Summit; and expressed support for Brazil as the G20 Chair in 2024, especially the priorities on sustainable development, climate action, and increasing the voice and interests of developing countries in the Southern Hemisphere.

Sharing about the serious impact of the recent storm No. 3 (international name: Yagi) on the Vietnamese economy and people, the Deputy Minister suggested that the G20 should continue to focus on prioritizing efforts to respond to climate change; in which the G20 countries need to take the lead in reducing emissions, supporting developing countries to adapt, and increasing resilience to climate change.

The Deputy Minister also emphasized the need to promote reform of the global governance system on the basis of ensuring fairness and inclusiveness, linking the G20's efforts with the effective implementation of the commitments just achieved at the Future Summit.

The conference adopted the Group's Press Statement, calling on countries to put aside differences and work towards an open, transparent global governance system that promptly addresses common challenges.

Previously, on the afternoon of September 22, Deputy Minister Do Hung Viet had a working session with Mr. Selwin Hart, assistant and special advisor to the United Nations Secretary-General on Climate Change and Energy Transition.

At the meeting, Deputy Minister Do Hung Viet shared about Vietnam's efforts in recent times to realize the goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050, and the progress of implementing projects within the framework of the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP).

Deputy Minister Do Hung Viet asked UN agencies and partners to continue supporting Vietnam in developing a green and sustainable economy, improving its capacity to respond to climate change and achieving a fair energy transition.

Assistant Secretary-General Selwin Hart highly appreciated and strongly supported Vietnam's efforts in the green transition process; committed to continue supporting and promoting partners to prioritize resources to support Vietnam in effectively implementing JETP.

In January 2010, Singapore announced the initiative to establish the 3G Group - a dialogue channel for small and medium-sized countries to convey messages, helping the G20 agenda become more comprehensive, inclusive and effective, promptly reflecting the needs of developing countries.

The 3G Group often holds ministerial-level meetings on the sidelines of the annual United Nations General Assembly./.
