Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh proposed that GAVI support Vietnam in transferring technology and skills in producing biological products and vaccines.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked GAVI and Ms. Aurelia Nguyen personally to increase support for Vietnam in building strategies and plans to improve expanded immunization and receive mRNA vaccine technology transfer.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received and awarded the Friendship Medal of the State of Vietnam to Ms. Aurélia Nguyen, Strategic Director of the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI).

On the morning of September 20, New York time, on the occasion of attending the High-level Debate of the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received and awarded the Friendship Medal of the State of Vietnam to Ms. Aurélia Nguyen, Strategic Director of the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI).

At the reception, the Prime Minister thanked Ms. Aurélia Nguyen for her valuable support to Vietnam during the most difficult period of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Prime Minister asked GAVI and Ms. Aurelia Nguyen to increase support for Vietnam in accessing vaccines to prevent epidemics, support Vietnam in developing strategies and plans to improve expanded immunization and receive mRNA vaccine technology transfer, help connect with reputable foreign experts, organizations and businesses, ready to cooperate, facilitate technology transfer, and skills in producing biological products and vaccines for Vietnamese partners.

Ms. Aurélia Nguyen highly appreciated and expressed her strong impression that Vietnam, from a country facing countless difficulties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, has, in a short time, become the country with the highest vaccine coverage in the world and quickly recovered and developed its socio-economy.

Expressing his hope that the two sides will continue to cooperate to produce vaccines against various diseases in the future, GAVI's strategic director affirmed that he is and will continue to support Vietnam in implementing vaccination programs against common diseases.

Ms. Aurélia Nguyen affirmed that she will continue to cooperate closely and effectively with the Vietnamese health sector.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister awarded Ms. Aurélia Nguyen the Friendship Medal of the State of Vietnam to acknowledge and express the appreciation of the Party, State and people of Vietnam for her important support for the fight against Covid-19, especially access to valuable vaccine sources during the most difficult time of the pandemic.

Ms. Aurélia Nguyen expressed her honor to receive the noble Medal of the State of Vietnam and affirmed that she will continue to cooperate closely and effectively with the Vietnamese health sector through projects to deploy new vaccines in the Expanded Immunization Program for Vietnamese children, activities towards eliminating measles and rubella, improving the quality of vaccination, and supporting the cold chain for vaccine preservation.

Ms. Aurélia Nguyen is one of the important leaders in strategy and policy in the field of vaccines globally. She is French of Vietnamese origin, and has a lot of affection for her homeland Vietnam.

In particular, in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, she regularly held phone calls and exchanged letters with senior Vietnamese leaders, through which COVAX provided Vietnam with more than 70 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines free of charge, far exceeding the COVAX commitment for Vietnam of 38.9 million doses.
