On the occasion of attending the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly's High-Level Debate, on the afternoon of September 19th, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with US Trade Representative Katherine Tai.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh thanked the US Trade Representative for his contributions to the development of bilateral relations between Vietnam and the United States in recent years.
At the same time, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that both sides actively coordinate to quickly realize the agreements of the high-level leaders of the two countries, including the United States prioritizing the promotion of the roadmap for recognizing Vietnam's market economy status and further opening its market to Vietnamese goods such as textiles, footwear, and agricultural products.
In addition, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested that the United States adequately consider the interests of Vietnamese businesses and refrain from applying trade defense measures against Vietnamese goods, based on ensuring balance, equality, and mutual benefit.
The Prime Minister also proposed that the two sides create breakthroughs in cooperation in science and technology, innovation, education, and training; and requested the United States to support Vietnam in building a supply chain related to semiconductor chips.
U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai affirmed the significance and importance of the two countries establishing a framework for a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, viewing it as an opportunity for both sides to cooperate in promoting economic and trade relations. She reiterated her profound impressions from her visit to Vietnam, noting how the visit helped her gain a deeper understanding of the country.
Ms. Katherine Tai affirmed that the United States has always considered Vietnam an important partner in the region; she wishes to continue promoting bilateral economic and trade cooperation, and the U.S. Trade Representative's Office will play a role in further promoting relations between the two countries in the future.
Ms. Katherine Tai also provided information on the progress and expressed her hope that Vietnam would continue to participate in and support efforts to conclude negotiations on the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF) as soon as possible, in order to bring common benefits to countries and people in the region.
