In order to strengthen economic and trade cooperation with Algeria in general and with Annaba province in particular, on April 29, the Vietnam Trade Office in Algeria coordinated with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Seybouse-Annaba province to organize a seminar to introduce the potential for import-export cooperation and investment between the two countries.

At the seminar, Mr. Mohamed Biar, Vice President of the Annaba Provincial Chamber of Commerce and Industry, introduced the economic potentials and investment opportunities of the province in the fields of trade, industry, agriculture and tourism.

Annaba Province is located 600km east of the capital Algiers, with the third largest population and economy in Algeria, with a system of seaports, airports, railways, and highways connecting to many domestic and international provinces.

Annaba is known as the second largest industrial center after the capital Algiers with two metallurgical complexes, El Hadjar (the largest in Africa) and Allelik.

Annaba also houses a Seybouse phosphate processing complex and nearly 260 small and medium-sized enterprises operating in the agricultural processing and manufacturing, metal, wood and construction sectors.

The provincial government is also urgently implementing plans to upgrade industrial parks and establish new ones, creating momentum for the development of small and medium-sized enterprises, contributing to diversifying the economy.

Investment in tourism is also a new direction of the provincial government. Annaba has classified historical relics, nearly 40 km of coastline with 20 beaches, and a large plain area running along the mountains with primeval forests.

The local government is building a "tourist corridor" stretching from the airport to the Annaba seaport, including entertainment, relaxation, shopping and other high-quality services.

Besides the potential for trade cooperation, Mr. Mohamed Biar expressed his wish for Vietnamese enterprises to invest in Annaba in areas such as fishing, aquaculture, mechanical manufacturing, tourism and agricultural processing.

Speaking at the event, Commercial Counselor Hoang Duc Nhuan highlighted the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Algeria, wishing to further promote bilateral trade and investment cooperation commensurate with the good political relations between the two countries.

To help the business community better understand the Vietnamese market, the Commercial Counselor introduced the economic situation, foreign trade and international integration of Vietnam, the trade and investment cooperation between the two countries in the past as well as trade promotion activities in the coming time.

On this occasion, the Trade Office also introduced samples of products such as coffee, pepper, cashew nuts, coconut rice, etc. and contact addresses of Vietnamese enterprises.

Algerian businesses attending the meeting expressed interest in importing seafood (pangasius, tuna, shrimp), trailers, shaped steel, railway equipment... and wanted to export dates, onions, garlic..., and at the same time wished to form joint ventures and partnerships with Vietnamese partners in the field of mining (kaolin, limestone, phosphate) to produce cement, fertilizer, rare earth mining, agricultural processing, shrimp farming...

At the event, the two sides also discussed measures to strengthen economic and trade relations in the coming time, such as actively promoting the exchange of business delegations, organizing more trade seminars, creating conditions for businesses to participate in international fairs and exhibitions held in each country, providing market information, introducing business opportunities, etc.

Also during their stay in Annaba, representatives of the Vietnamese Trade Office in Algeria visited a number of local seafood and steel product businesses./.
