Promote scientific research among students

The quality of students in the 4.0 era is assessed not only in terms of knowledge, skills, and attitudes but also in terms of practical experience through scientific research results and practical activities. Nguyen Tat Thanh University has promoted scientific research among students for many years to improve the quality of training and foster talents in science and technology.

"Developing adventure tourism at Kong sinkhole, Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, Quang Binh province: Towards sustainability and safety" is the scientific research topic of Vo Hoang Phi, a final year student of the Faculty of Tourism, Nguyen Tat Thanh University.

This topic won second prize in the 2024 Eureka Student Scientific Research Award, an award for scientific research and creativity by students nationwide.

According to Vo Hoang Phi, Kong sinkhole, one of the deepest sinkholes in the world , is an ideal destination for adventurous tourists with activities such as cave exploration, mountain climbing and waterfall crossing.

However, " tourism activities here are facing many challenges regarding sustainability and safety, including negative impacts on the natural environment and risks that have not been effectively managed," said student Vo Hoang Phi.

Vo Hoang Phi's survey of tourists shows that, regarding tourists' concerns when choosing adventure tourism at Kong sinkhole: up to 92% of tourists are concerned about the general safety level, 88% are interested in rescue plans, 76% pay attention to the quality of safety equipment and 68% are worried about access to medical services.

Regarding the impact of climbing and collision activities on stalactites, stalagmites and cave pearls in the caves, 56% of visitors considered the impact to be moderate to very high, reflecting concerns about the conservation of natural rock structures.

In contrast, 32% of visitors rated the impact as negligible, while 68% of visitors rated climbing and touching natural features as having a medium to high impact.

From there, Hoang Phi's scientific research topic recommends that, in order to protect the environment and minimize impacts on sensitive ecosystems in cave areas, management agencies need to build a system of clear and synchronous environmental regulations for tourism operators. This will help improve the effectiveness of protecting local ecosystems, ensuring the safety of tourists, as well as protecting the environment at Kong sinkhole.

In addition to Vo Hoang Phi's topic in the field of culture and arts that won second prize, Nguyen Tat Thanh University also had the topic "Copyright protection for works created by artificial intelligence - some suggestions for Vietnam from the experience of other countries" by Nguyen Le Anh Thu that won third prize; two consolation prizes went to the topic "Building a molecular docking model on targets related to inflammation", and the topic "Treatment of Methyl red in aqueous solution by photocatalytic decomposition using nano silver synthesized from guava leaf extract". In addition, the university's students also won many awards in scientific research competitions.

In 2024 alone, Nguyen Tat Thanh University had 394 student scientific research topics. The scientific research of the school's students not only increased in quantity but also in quality. Among these, some of the students' scientific research was published in prestigious international journals in the ISI/SCOPUS system.

Dr. Tran Ai Cam, Principal of the school, said: Scientific research in schools not only helps improve the quality of teaching and learning but also serves as a basis for discovering and training students to become future scientific and technological talents. Nguyen Tat Thanh University hopes that through scientific research activities, it will help students find their own methods of self-study, independence and overcoming difficulties to succeed. Only then will students be able to equip themselves with more practical experience and knowledge, making it easier to find a job after graduation, and further, students will be able to start their own businesses and start their own businesses successfully.

Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thi Hong, Vice Principal of the school also shared: To continue promoting the scientific research movement of students, periodically every school year, the school plans and announces policies to support the development of research projects throughout the school, and at the same time coordinates with relevant units in scientific research, technology transfer to organize activities and competitions on scientific research, innovation, and startups to equip and foster capacity, research methods, etc. for students throughout the school.
