While the flood-hit areas in the Central region are still covered in mud, the warmth of sharing is seeping into every home and classroom.
Mother and child and books continue the journey
In a small house in Son Tra ward, Da Nang , when dinner had just ended, Ms. Thanh Tinh's son shouted when he read the news calling for book donations: "Please send them to the children in the flooded areas, Mom!".
That night, the three of them cleaned each book together, washed the slightly worn-out bag, and put it neatly in the bag.
"Every year I still keep my child's old books as a souvenir, but this year when the Central region is struggling with floods, I think those books can continue a new journey, helping another child go to school," said Ms. Tinh.
At the weekend, the rain in Da Nang stopped. The mother and daughter drove to the donation point to leave a few sets of books and a few bags. "While people in the flood-affected areas are still struggling after deep water, sometimes just a book and a pen are enough to warm people's hearts," she shared.

From small slippers to a letter sowing sunshine after the rain for flooded areas
These days, many houses, shops, and schools in Da Nang have become places to receive books and notebooks for students in flooded areas.
Fifth grader Nguyen Minh Khang timidly carried a small bag containing three pairs of sandals and a stack of neatly tied notebooks.
"This was my gift for my excellent student last year. Now I'm giving it to my friends in the flood area so they can have notebooks to go to school," Khang said softly. The teacher said he chose to give away the notebooks because "the paper is thick so the students won't have any ink smudges when writing."

At Ngoc Lan Kindergarten (Hai Chau Ward, Da Nang), Principal Nguyen Quoc Thu Tram wrote a letter titled "Mud underfoot but sunshine above head".
In the letter, Ms. Thu Tram said: "We have just gone through days of rain and floods in our hometown. Somewhere, there are still many children facing difficulties, lacking food, and not having warm meals.
Children, let's together send warm clothes, cakes, and milk boxes to share love with the children in our hometown.
From that simple appeal, a fundraising program was launched towards two kindergartens Dai Hong and Dai Dong (Ha Nha commune, Da Nang) with 129 children.

In Hoi An - which has just experienced a historic flood, Ms. Mai Thao, a teacher at Nguyen Du Secondary School, has connected with donors to support books and backpacks for students in flooded areas. Although still struggling after the flood, local people still contributed notebooks and pens to share.
Fueled by that love, teachers and students here ignored the flooded roads and brought gifts to students, helping them to confidently go to school and nurture their dreams after the storm and flood.
