Standing member of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu visited and presented gifts to people affected by floods in Hue.

On the afternoon of October 30, a working delegation of leaders of the Party, State and Vietnam Fatherland Front led by Politburo member and Permanent member of the Party Central Committee Secretariat Tran Cam Tu inspected the flood situation, visited patients and families and people affected by floods in Hue city.

Visiting people in Thanh Thuy ward, Standing member of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu said that Hue is one of the localities most severely affected by natural disasters in recent days. In that situation, despite being busy working abroad, General Secretary To Lam always followed the situation, cared, worried and sent letters of inquiry, encouragement and sharing with compatriots, cadres and soldiers across the country who are responding to and overcoming the consequences of natural disasters.

On behalf of the Party and State leaders, comrade Tran Cam Tu sent to the people of Hue his warm regards and deep sympathy for the damage and loss caused by the floods; at the same time, commended the efforts, the urgent, drastic, timely, dedicated and highly responsible participation of the entire political system in the work of preventing, combating and minimizing damage caused by natural disasters. Many officers, soldiers and people have not feared the danger to evacuate, provide relief and support with food, provisions and medicine to deeply flooded and isolated areas.

Standing member of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu suggested that Hue city focus on promptly overcoming the consequences of natural disasters and floods with the highest priority being to rescue people, ensuring the safety of people's lives above all; deploy all measures and means to search, rescue and save missing people; evacuate people from areas at risk of flash floods and landslides; absolutely not let any people suffer from deprivation or isolation without timely support.

Comrade Tran Cam Tu emphasized the need to ensure safe temporary accommodation, clean water, medicine and all necessary necessities for the people; especially take care of the elderly, children, pregnant women, and vulnerable groups as directed by General Secretary To Lam. The city needs to urgently repair and initially overcome essential infrastructure; absolutely not let there be a shortage of schools and medical facilities; take care of and soon stabilize the people's lives, restore production and business.

Localities need to organize visits, encourage and implement policies well for families with dead or missing people; effectively care for and treat the injured; promote information and propaganda work so that people, agencies and units can proactively and effectively respond to natural disasters, maintain security, order and social safety, and fight against false information, especially in cyberspace.

On this occasion, Standing member of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu presented support gifts from the Party and State leaders to Hue city, and also presented gifts to Thanh Thuy ward households affected by natural disasters. Vice President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Ha Thi Nga also presented 5 billion VND from the Central Relief Mobilization Committee to support the people and on-duty forces of Hue city.

On the same day, the delegation also presented gifts to patients being treated at Hue Central Hospital and the family of Ms. Vu Thi Hong Que (born in 1949, a war invalid, a resistance activist infected with toxic chemicals) affected by the recent floods.

From October 25 to 30, due to the influence of cold air combined with high-altitude easterly wind disturbances, Hue city experienced very heavy rain with extremely large amounts of rainfall, causing two major floods on the rivers. According to preliminary statistics, the rain and floods killed 5 people, 3 people went missing and 1 person was injured; caused flooding in 32/40 communes and wards with 35,000 households, many houses collapsed and were damaged; many essential infrastructures, properties, rice, crops, plants, livestock and aquatic products were severely damaged.
