In the 5th round of the men's team event of the Chess Olympiad held on the evening of September 15, the Vietnamese chess team faced Poland, the 11th seed with an average Elo of 2,658, which was considered to be higher. However, Le Quang Liem, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son, Le Tuan Minh, and Tran Tuan Minh continued to show their high performance, winning impressively against their tough opponents.

World No. 14 player Le Quang Liem (elo 2,741) continued to play a key role for the Vietnamese team when he sat at table No. 1, facing Duda Jan-Krzysztof (elo 2,732). Vietnam's No. 1 player drew with the Polish chess "prodigy" and former European champion.

On table number 2, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son (elo 2,633) was at a disadvantage with the black pieces (going later) but played explosively, defeating Wojtaszek Radoslaw (elo 2,681) after 47 moves of intelligence. Vietnam's number 2 player made bold and precise moves that forced his opponent to make mistakes and accept defeat. This was Truong Son's second consecutive victory against a higher elo opponent, thereby contributing to the overall victory of the Vietnamese chess team.

At table 3, Le Tuan Minh (elo 2,564) also achieved good performance when defeating Bartel Mateusz (elo 2,618). Le Tuan Minh showed steady progress, thereby helping Vietnamese chess remain undefeated at table 3 (4 wins, 1 draw) and greatly contributing to the team's victory.

Tran Tuan Minh (elo 2,434) lost to Gumularz Szymon (elo 2,571) on board 4, but the Vietnamese chess team still secured a 2.5 - 1.5 victory over the Polish team. With this result, Le Quang Liem and his teammates won all 5 games for the first time in the history of the Olympiad and rose to third place on the rankings, after India and China.

In game 6 today, Le Quang Liem and his teammates "fought" with the Chinese chess team, the third seed of the tournament with an average elo of 2,724. China participated in the 2024 Chess Olympiad with a lineup considered the strongest with reigning world champion Ding Liren (elo 2,736), world number 8 Wei Yi... Most likely, Le Quang Liem will face reigning chess king Ding Liren on board 1 while Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son will face Wei Yi on board 2. The match is attracting the attention of fans because whichever team wins will have an advantage in the championship race.
