Risk of power overload in hot season
According to Hoa Binh Electricity Company, in 2024, the province's commercial electricity output will reach 1.44 billion kWh, an increase of 9.31% compared to 2023. It is forecasted that in 2025, along with
economic recovery and erratic weather conditions, electricity consumption will continue to increase sharply, especially during peak months from May to August.
Comrade Nguyen Phuc Thinh, Director of
Hoa Binh Power Company said: In 2025, the company will focus on synchronously implementing solutions to ensure safe and continuous power supply, serving socio-economic development and improving people's quality of life. The unit strictly implements Directive No. 01/CT-TTg of the Prime Minister, proactively plans to supply power during the dry season and the orientation to 2030. At the same time, promote the application of technology, digital transformation in management and operation to optimize services and improve customer experience.
One of the key solutions is the load adjustment program (DR) and load shifting according to Directive No. 20/CT-TTg in 2023. Accordingly, large manufacturing customers such as cement factories, construction materials factories, etc. are recommended to arrange reasonable production time (13-15h, 20-23h), avoiding using high capacity during peak hours. Administrative agencies and enterprises are also encouraged to replace low-efficiency equipment, apply energy management models and register peak capacity to coordinate load reasonably.
Hoa Binh Power Company has directed its affiliated units to work directly with major customers on the principle of load adjustment in a rotational and fair manner, while promoting communication on efficient electricity use. Anti-overload works, equipment and human resources are all prepared to cope with the peak of the hot and rainy seasons.
Join hands to save electricity
In Da Bac district, Da Bac Electricity Company has increased its work with production facilities, encouraging them to arrange their operating hours during off-peak hours. Comrade Bui Van Bien, Director of Da Bac Electricity Company, said: "We encourage households and businesses to apply simple but effective electricity-saving measures, such as using LED lights, turning on air conditioners at 26°C or higher, turning off unused equipment, and avoiding operating high-capacity machinery during peak hours from 11am to 3pm and 5pm to 8pm."
At the same time, communication work was promoted. The Electricity Company instructed people to install the EVNNPC CSKH application to monitor electricity consumption, look up bills, thereby adjusting electricity usage in a more proactive and economical way.
In recent years, the province has paid great attention to promoting electricity saving. On April 26, 2024, the Provincial People's Committee issued Plan No. 91/KH-UBND on implementing electricity saving in the period of 2024 - 2025 and the following years. The plan sets specific goals: Annually save at least 2% of the total electricity consumption of the whole province; reduce electricity loss below 6% by 2025; reduce peak load capacity by at least 3% through the electricity load adjustment program.
The province also aims to have at least 20% of office buildings and residential buildings using self-produced and self-consumed rooftop solar power by 2030; by 2025, 100% of street lighting will use LED lights. Administrative units, schools, hospitals, and businesses must develop electricity saving plans and clearly define the responsibilities of leaders in implementing them.
At the grassroots level, the authorities of communes, wards and towns have also actively participated. Mr. Cao Viet Dong, Secretary of the Party Committee of Ngoc My Commune (Tan Lac) said: "We identify the promotion of electricity saving as a regular
political task, especially during the hot season. The local authorities coordinate with the Electricity sector to organize and integrate it into people's meetings and Party cell activities, to promote to each household the rational and scientific use of electricity."
Every small action contributes greatly to energy security.
According to Hoa Binh Electricity Company, from the beginning of 2025 to now, the whole province has 87 industrial customers consuming over 1 million kWh/year who have signed load adjustment agreements, with a total DR capacity of 34.3 MW. There are 90 customers with 105 measurement points implementing load shifting, with a total shifting capacity of about 13 MW. The rate of large customers participating in the DR program in the whole province is 100%. In 2024, the total saved electricity output of the whole province will reach 41.14 million kWh, accounting for 2.9% of the commercial electricity output, exceeding 0.9% of the plan according to Directive No. 20/CT-TTg of the Prime Minister.
At Mandala Retreats Kim Boi resort, Kim Boi district, Mr. Pham Tuan Anh, representative of the unit said: "In the summer, the number of guests increases, electricity consumption increases sharply, the unit has thoroughly promoted electricity saving to each employee. We take advantage of natural light and wind instead of turning on the air conditioner all day. In addition, the generator system is also prepared to respond when needed."
At Thanh Nhan ice cream production facility in Da Bac district, Mr. Hoang Van Kha, the facility owner, shared: "Summer is the peak production season, so electricity consumption is very high. When participating in the DR program, we shifted production hours to off-peak hours, thereby saving costs and not interrupting production. This is a beneficial solution for businesses, while also accompanying the Electricity industry to maintain system stability."
In residential areas, awareness of electricity saving is increasingly widespread. Mr. Dinh Van Dan's family in Cao Son commune (Da Bac) has proactively replaced incandescent bulbs with LED lights. Along with that, using curtains to prevent direct sunlight from entering the house, using electric fans and air conditioners reasonably increases cooling efficiency and saves electricity. "On extremely hot days, the demand for electricity increases, if the equipment is not used properly, the electricity bill can double or even triple. Therefore, my family has learned and learned how to use the equipment properly, both to avoid high electricity bills and to help prevent overload and electrical fires" - Mr. Dan shared.
In Tu Ly commune, Nguyen Van Hung's family is also one of the typical households in saving electricity. Hung shared: "Thanks to participating in propaganda sessions of Electricity and local authorities, my family has changed the way we use electricity. We turn off unnecessary devices, use air conditioners properly, replace old light bulbs and devices with energy-saving ones."
Faced with great pressure from the increasing demand for electricity during the hot season and the context of climate change, saving electricity is no longer a slogan but a practical action, requiring the consensus of the whole society, from the Electricity industry, government, businesses to each household. Every small action today is a sustainable contribution to the national power system tomorrow, so that the light source is always maintained stable and safe.

Strengthening grid renovation, promoting electricity saving propaganda Mai Chau is a district with a large area and a scattered population, so providing stable electricity during the hot season is always a challenge. Faced with this reality, Mai Chau Electricity has proactively reviewed, invested in renovating and upgrading many power lines and transformer stations to prevent overload, ensuring safe and continuous electricity supply for daily life and production. Along with that, the unit strengthens coordination with organizations and People's Committees of communes and towns to promote propaganda and guide people to use electricity economically and effectively. In particular, focusing on close and easy-to-apply solutions such as: taking advantage of the shade of trees to limit the heat in the house, using heat-blocking curtains, opening doors early to welcome natural wind, turning off electrical equipment when not in use, adjusting air conditioning to a reasonable level. We determine that saving electricity is not only a temporary measure during the hot season, but also a practical action for the long-term benefits of each household and the entire national power system. Ha Duc Hanh, Director of Mai Chau Electricity
Use air conditioning properly My family has 5 members, using 2 air conditioners. In addition, we also use many other electrical appliances to serve our daily life. In the hot season, air conditioners are the devices that consume the most electricity. On extremely hot days, when someone is at home, we have to turn on the air conditioner. This is a device that causes electricity bills to increase if not used properly. Through research on mass media and instructions from the Electricity industry, my family has learned tips to use air conditioners effectively. Previously, on the hottest days, air conditioners were often set below 20°C. However, the cooling efficiency was not high because the temperature difference with the outside was quite large, while the electricity bill increased. Currently, families only turn on the air conditioner at 26°C or higher, and at the same time use electric fans to circulate the air, increasing the cooling efficiency. In addition, the filter must be cleaned regularly for the air conditioner to operate more effectively. Nguyen Van Nhan, Group 13, Tan Thinh Ward, Hoa Binh City
Choose appliances with energy-saving labels In the past, I did not know much about how to use electricity economically, especially when buying electrical appliances for the family. Every time I went to buy electrical appliances such as refrigerators or televisions, I usually only cared about the price and design, but did not pay attention to factors such as energy saving ability. In recent years, when I went shopping, the seller advised me about appliances with energy saving labels, using energy saving technology. At first, I did not care much, but after buying them and using them, I saw the difference, the monthly electricity bill did not increase as much as before even though the appliances were more modern. My family has proactively replaced incandescent bulbs with LED bulbs, and purchased refrigerators and washing machines with high energy efficiency labels. Although the initial price may be higher, long-term use is very beneficial. Not only does the electricity bill not increase, but energy-saving devices are often durable and less likely to break down, so I also save money on repairs.
