(ABO) On April 20, at the Tien Giang Border Guard Command, more than 60 veterans from the Northern and Southern provinces of Special Forces Battalion 283 (formerly Military Region 8) met to celebrate the 49th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2024).
At the meeting, delegates together recalled the memories of a time of bombs and bullets, smoke and fire of the 283rd Special Forces Battalion, with heroic and resounding battles in the former Zone 8 area.
Following Uncle Ho's teaching: "Special forces are special tasks, special honors, and require special efforts. Special forces soldiers are especially trusted... Any task, any special task must be completed and completed well... Any special difficulty must be overcome, must be overcome...", in the journey of building, fighting, and growing up of the 283rd Special Forces Battalion, there are glorious pages of history shining with noble revolutionary qualities, steadfast and indomitable will, enduring all hardships, overcoming all dangerous challenges, and being ready to sacrifice oneself for the cause of national liberation and national reunification. It is crystallized by sweat, blood, heroic spirit, and determination to fight and win of many generations of cadres and soldiers of the 283rd Special Forces Battalion of Military Region 8.

The 283rd Special Forces Battalion was established when the Nguyen Hue Campaign opened, with the participation of over 400 comrades. In a short time, the Battalion achieved many resounding victories, annihilating thousands of enemies, destroying and capturing many enemy vehicles and military weapons, contributing to the victory of the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign.

On this occasion, veterans of the 283rd Special Forces Battalion were organized by the Tien Giang Border Guard Command to offer flowers and burn incense at the National Hero Truong Dinh Temple Relic Site (Gia Thuan Commune, Go Cong Dong District).
