In the 2024-2025 school year, the country'seducation system will have 25,255,251 students. Of these, 2,068,522 will be university students.

Students study at 53,979 educational institutions. The total number of lecturers, teachers, educational administrators and workers is 1,659,589.

This data was compiled by the Ministry of Education and Training as of 5:30 p.m. on September 4, 2024.

In terms of the number of students, primary school has the largest number with more than 8.8 million students.

Next is secondary school and kindergarten. The number of university students is about 900,000 less than the number of high school students.

Meanwhile, preschool is the level with the largest number of schools, with more than 13,000 schools. Meanwhile, all of the more than 12,000 independent preschools and nursery schools are all non-public schools.

If we count more than 3,000 non-public kindergartens, the number of non-public kindergartens is greater than that of public schools.

This is also the only level of education where the number of non-public schools is greater than public schools.

If we count the number of teachers, primary school has the largest number of students so the number of teachers is also the largest, more than 403,000 people. Preschool has the second largest number with over 381,000 people.

Education sector lacks more than 113,000 teachers

Statistics in April 2024 from the Ministry of Education and Training showed that the whole country still lacked 113,491 teachers at all levels of preschool and general education.

Local teacher shortages occur in most localities, especially teachers of new subjects (English, IT, music , and fine arts).

The structure of the teaching staff is still unbalanced between subjects at the same level of education, between regions with different socio-economic conditions. The quota for allocating teachers to localities is mostly lower than the actual demand.

According to the Ministry of Education and Training, the reason for the teacher shortage is that the attraction to the industry is still limited, the number of teachers leaving their jobs is still high, and the source of teachers for some specific subjects is still lacking. In addition, recruitment in localities is slow, with about 72,000 assigned positions still unfilled.
