On May 23, the Central Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology in Ho Chi Minh City organized a scientific and training conference with the theme "Multidimensional approach - optimal treatment", on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the hospital's founding.

The conference gathered nearly 500 delegates and more than 20 thematic reports in key areas of dentistry.

One of the important highlights of this year's conference is the reports related to artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technology .

Reporting on the topic of artificial intelligence (AI) in implant surgery, Dr. To Viet Thanh - Deputy Head of the Dental Implant Department of the Central Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology, Ho Chi Minh City - said that AI has been widely applied in many areas of life, including medicine .

In the field of dental implants, AI is making a difference, helping to improve accuracy in imaging diagnosis, treatment planning and personalization of restorations.

Although AI has the potential and benefits in implant placement, the clinical experience of the surgeon still plays an important role. In fact, soft tissue operations (flap creation, sinus lift, bone grafting) still depend on the surgeon.

According to Dr. Thanh, there needs to be clear legal regulations and guidelines from the Ministry of Health for the application of AI and robots, especially legal responsibilities when complications occur (due to the machine or the doctor). In addition, the initial investment cost for AI equipment is still high and doctors need to be trained to use AI.

"Despite challenges in standardization and training, AI is expected to become a strategic partner in safe, fast and sustainable implant treatment," Dr. Thanh concluded.

Speaking at the conference, Dr. Le Trung Chanh - Director of the Central Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology, Ho Chi Minh City - shared that the conference is a special occasion to look back on the 45-year journey of building and developing the hospital. At the same time, continue to innovate in training, technology transfer, scientific research and patient care, affirming the leading role in the Southern region.

The conference not only discussed technology in dentistry, but also extended to core clinical issues and emphasized the indispensable role of nursing in the comprehensive oral health care system.
