At 8:00 p.m. on May 26, Vietnam time, the world gold price dropped to 3,334 USD/ounce, down about 24 USD/ounce (equivalent to about 790,000 VND/tael) compared to the morning.

World gold prices fell as news of the tariff situation between the US and the EU calmed down. President Donald Trump has just announced to postpone the tariff on imported goods from the EU market until July 9, instead of June 1 as originally planned.

Previously, in the last session of the week, gold prices skyrocketed by hundreds of USD/ounce when investors worried about tariff tensions between the US and EU, seeking gold as a safe haven.

The decrease in world gold prices has dragged down domestic gold prices. However, a surprise has occurred in the domestic gold market, when the price of SJC gold bars decreased at a faster rate than the decrease in world gold prices.

The price of SJC gold bars on the evening of May 26 was listed by businesses such as SJC, DOJI , PNJ, and Bao Tin Minh Chau at 116 million VND/tael for buying and 119 million VND/tael for selling - down 1 million VND compared to the morning, losing a total of 2 million VND in just 1 day.

The price of 99.99 gold rings and jewelry gold also continued to decrease but at a slower rate, around 111.5 million VND/tael for buying and 114.5 million VND/tael for selling - a total decrease of 1.5 million VND during the day.

The difference between the buying and selling prices of SJC gold bars and gold rings continues to widen, reaching VND3 million/tael. The price of gold rings is still VND5 million/tael lower than that of SJC gold bars.

Gold prices have been fluctuating continuously recently. According to experts, gold price trends are difficult to predict. Because gold prices are being affected by information related to US tariff policies with other countries.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Huu Huan, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics , said that although the price of gold has increased by 30%-40% since the beginning of the year, even up to 50% at times, it is still forecasted to continue to increase. Because, not only is it a safe haven investment channel for individual and institutional investors, gold is also being increasingly purchased by central banks of countries to increase foreign exchange reserves.

"If the US tariff policy continues to change as it is now, gold prices will continue to increase," Mr. Huan predicted.

Currently, the world gold price converted according to the listed exchange rate is about 104.9 million VND/tael.
