Former Hanoi Party Secretary Pham Quang Nghi affirmed that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is an extremely exemplary moral role model with immense influence on future generations.
Sharing with VietNamNet reporters, Mr. Pham Quang Nghi, former Politburo member and former Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee, emphasized that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is an "extremely exemplary" moral role model. This example of the Party leader has an immense influence on future generations. [Regarding the silver briefcase and the glasses he never uses] As an official who had the opportunity to work and interact closely with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, what aspects of the General Secretary impressed you? Considering the historical demands of the past years, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is an outstanding leader. He has left very deep imprints on the process of reform, Party building, and expanding international relations between Vietnam and countries around the world, especially major powers. The economy continues to develop, society is stable, and national security and defense are maintained. The highlight and most distinctive mark of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is his work in Party building and rectification, and in the fight against corruption and negative phenomena. This work has never been carried out as strongly, decisively, and continuously as in recent years. This is demonstrated through activities ranging from propaganda and education to, especially, the handling of prominent corruption and negative cases. In short, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong dedicated his entire life, until his last breath, to the country, to the Party, and to the people. The General Secretary is a leader who is thrifty, honest, upright, and selfless, and he exemplifies these virtues to an exemplary and outstanding standard.

Through your interactions, what have you observed about the General Secretary's everyday life? General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is an extremely simple person. I know that the glasses he uses have probably been with him for decades. Or the briefcase he uses year after year, even though it's old and faded, he still hasn't replaced it. The jacket and shirt he wears are from the time I worked there; I still see him wearing them on television. This reflects a simple, down-to-earth, and approachable style. I took over the position of Secretary of the Hanoi City Party Committee after Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong was elected Chairman of the National Assembly in June 2006. This simplicity and approachability in his work was evident on the handover day. No decorations, no flags, no signs, just a Standing Committee meeting to hand over the work. Interacting with the General Secretary was the same. Not only me, but others as well, always feel, upon meeting the General Secretary, not just as they would meet a high-ranking leader, but first and foremost as someone approachable, friendly, and sincere. This feeling radiates from the General Secretary himself, not something he "forces" to appear that way. It's a consistent demeanor, reflecting his true character. General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, in all his positions, from his time as an editor at the Communist Magazine to his later leadership roles, has always been wholeheartedly devoted to the Party and the people. No one doubts this! A "TRULY EXEMPLARY" MORAL EXAMPLE. Is the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong an immense loss to the Party, the country, and the people? Every leader's passing is a great loss to the Party, the organization, and the people. As long as that person is alive and contributing, they will have the opportunity to contribute even more to the common cause. Therefore, this loss is irreplaceable. On the other hand, when considering the activities of an individual, or an organization, or more broadly, a Party, there is always a succession; when one person retires, another takes their place. This is an objective law of life; everyone must eventually hand over their responsibilities. Whenever a handover occurs, everyone hopes that the successor will do better than them. The more reputable and insightful the leader, the more they desire this. This is both a wish and a responsibility of the successor towards their predecessor. The more respect one has for their predecessor, the more they must do well in building upon what their predecessor has done well.General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong with the people of Hanoi. As he shared, the most important highlight in General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's career is the fight against corruption and negative practices, and the building and rectification of the Party. And is that an achievement that needs to be further promoted? The fight against corruption and negative practices to eliminate wrongdoings and bad things within the Party and among cadres is a continuous process, carried out over various periods. The fight against corruption is a very important task because it not only touches upon the honor, prestige, and greed of individuals, but the much more difficult aspect is the struggle to resolve the issue within our own ranks. The role of individuals in history is very important. But on the other hand, our Party has a tradition of unity and consensus in making important decisions. In general, decisions are always the product of collective intelligence and will. In recent years, we have seen the General Secretary's position very prominent, always leading and directly guiding important issues. Going forward, we also hope to have leaders like him. Because the fight against corruption and negative practices is not a task that can be completed in a day or two. And this is not just a personal wish, but the will and aspiration of the Party, of the cadres, and of the people. Regarding the moral example of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, what do you remember most? I had the opportunity to be close to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong both during his time in office and after his retirement. The most striking impression, not just mine but shared by everyone, is that the General Secretary is an "extremely exemplary" person. That is a clean moral example, wholeheartedly dedicated to the Party and the people. That example of our Party leader has an incredibly powerful influence on future generations.
