At the invitation of General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea Kim Jong-un, General Secretary To Lam will pay a State visit to North Korea and attend the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Workers' Party of Korea from October 9-11.

On January 31, 1950, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam) officially established diplomatic relations.

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The traditional friendship and cooperation between the two Parties and States, personally built by President Kim Il Sung and President Ho Chi Minh and nurtured by generations of high-ranking leaders of the two countries, has been constantly consolidated and developed, in accordance with the aspirations and wishes of the people of each country.

Last January, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un sent a congratulatory message to Vietnamese President Luong Cuong on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-North Korea diplomatic relations.

Mr. Kim Jong-un stated: "The Party and Government of Vietnam and the DPRK have designated 2025 as the 'Year of Friendship' for the common striving for the goal of socialism." Mr. Kim emphasized that developing and enhancing the bilateral friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and the DPRK is in line with the aspirations and common wishes of the people of the two countries.

Previously, in a congratulatory message to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, President Luong Cuong affirmed that the Vietnam-North Korea friendship is a traditional relationship that has been nurtured by President Ho Chi Minh, President Kim Il-sung and many generations of Vietnamese leaders and people. Through the "Year of Friendship", the two sides will carry out many meaningful activities to celebrate this event.

General Secretary To Lam also sent a congratulatory message to the North Korean leader, affirming that North Korea is one of the first countries with which Vietnam established diplomatic relations.

The General Secretary recalled the official visit to Hanoi by leader Kim Jong-un on the occasion of the 2019 North Korea-US Summit and affirmed that this was an important historical milestone. In addition, General Secretary To Lam also emphasized the strategic orientation for developing relations between the two Parties and States to create a good development period, contributing to bilateral friendship.
