According to a VNA reporter in Washington, President Donald Trump has postponed the ban on the TikTok platform for the fourth time, allowing this short video application to exist in the US until near the end of 2025.

In an executive order signed on September 16, President Trump extended the deadline to December 16 for TikTok's Chinese parent company, ByteDance, to divest from the platform.

Over the past nine months, Mr. Trump has issued three executive orders aimed at delaying the April 2024 deadline set by former President Joe Biden under the Protecting Americans from Apps Controlled by Foreign Adversaries Act.

In recent years, some US government officials have expressed concerns that TikTok poses a national security threat, alleging that ByteDance, a Beijing-based company, is sharing US user data with China. TikTok has repeatedly denied these allegations.

Earlier on September 15, President Trump revealed that a framework agreement had been reached with China on the sale of TikTok's assets to a US-based owner. However, no specific details have been announced yet.

Also on September 15, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the US and China had reached a framework agreement regarding the operations of the TikTok platform in the country, within the framework of the trade and economic negotiations taking place in Madrid, Spain from September 14-17.

According to Mr. Bessent, this framework agreement aims to transfer TikTok to US-controlled ownership, but the final details will be discussed by US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in a phone call, expected to take place on September 19./.
