Speaking on the sidelines of the Russia-Africa Summit in St. Petersburg, Russian President Vladimir Putin said the Ukrainian army had mounted a larger counterattack than in early June, but had suffered heavy losses.

According to Mr. Putin, in the past 24 hours, Ukraine has launched large-scale counterattacks on Russian defense lines in the Zaporizhzhia region and many other areas.

President Putin said that the Russian army repelled Ukrainian counterattacks, and he instructed the Russian Defense Ministry to award state awards to the best soldiers and consider honoring units with good combat records.

“Ukraine used a large amount of heavy equipment, about 50 pieces. About 39 of them, including 26 tanks and 13 armored vehicles, were destroyed,” Mr. Putin said.

President Putin added that about 60% of Ukrainian armored forces were destroyed by Russian infantry and the rest by drone units.

Mr Putin stressed that the Ukrainian army had suffered heavy casualties in the counter-offensive over the past 24 hours, with more than 200 soldiers killed. He acknowledged that the Russian army had suffered casualties while repelling the attack, describing the difference between the two sides' losses as "huge".

The Russian leader claimed that Ukraine lost 10 times more soldiers than Russia in the battle.

The Ukrainian army began its counteroffensive in early June, deploying NATO-trained units at the main attack points and mobilizing a large amount of military hardware for the operation.
