Images shared on social media show the single-cabin version heavily camouflaged, but it is still possible to see the front end of the car being refreshed in a modern style, similar to the Toyota Corolla Cross facelift and new Camry models. Previously, Best Car magazine (Japan) also released digital renderings with a design that is almost identical to reality. According to observations, the new generation Hilux will not have any "revolutionary" changes but will mainly be evolutionary upgrades from the current version.
The overall dimensions of the new Toyota Hilux are expected to be similar to the current version, smaller than the Ford Ranger and Kia Tasman. The bed is also similar in size, not wide enough to fit a standard Australian wooden pallet between the wheel arches. The interior is expected to be the area with the most improvements. Leaked drawings from Headlight Magazine (Thailand) show the cabin will have a larger screen, more storage compartments, a new dashboard and air-conditioning vents. Notably, the gear lever is inspired by the LandCruiser Prado model.
In addition, previous drawings also suggested that the new Hilux has a step to the truck bed, a detail that has become a strong point of the rival Ford Ranger, but is still not revealed in test photos due to the camouflage covering. It is unclear what the open space in front of the gear lever is used for. But it could be a storage compartment. The focus on improving the interior may disappoint markets that value the practicality of the Hilux, but it could be good news for markets that value aesthetics and convenience like Vietnam. The high-end versions are expected to still use the 2.8L 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, but will be combined with an 8-speed automatic transmission instead of the current 6-speed. The 48V mild-hybrid technology will also be retained, supporting the diesel engine when accelerating, with a capacity similar to the current 201 horsepower/500Nm.
Lower trims are expected to continue with the 2.4L turbocharged diesel and 2.7L naturally aspirated petrol engines. However, in the face of strict emissions regulations, Toyota has hinted at the use of biofuels for the HiLux pickup truck. Video : Toyota HiLux 2026 pickup truck revealed.
