The US is leading the recovery thanks to hybrids and SUVs.

In the US, September sales reached 185,748 vehicles, up 14.2%. Year-to-date sales reached 1,865,876 vehicles (+7.9%), driven by strong demand for hybrid models and the resumption of production of large SUVs such as the Lexus TX and Toyota Grand Highlander compared to the same period last year.

Europe sees steady price increases, with the Yaris contributing to the trend.

Europe recorded a 5.7% increase in September, equivalent to 112,613 vehicles. Cumulative sales for the first nine months reached 895,099 vehicles (+2.2%). Toyota assesses this market as stable, with production increasing year-on-year, and the Yaris being one of the models contributing positively.

Asia shows divergence: China stagnates month-on-month, India rises steadily.

China: New electric vehicles support cumulative stability.

In September, Toyota sold 158,913 vehicles in China (-1%). However, the cumulative sales for the first nine months increased by 4.9% to 1,301,741 vehicles. The introduction of the all-electric Toyota bZ3X helped maintain sales momentum as some regions ended subsidies and consumers awaited price reductions at local auto shows.

Southeast Asia: Contrasting viewpoints between Thailand and Indonesia

Thailand recorded a 0.3% increase in sales thanks to the appeal of the new Yaris Ativ, despite tight credit conditions. Conversely, cumulative sales in Indonesia fell 14% through September, impacted by stricter lending procedures and the imposition of new taxes. Other markets such as Taiwan (−3%) and Malaysia (−2.4%) also saw declines.

Japan: Monthly decline due to production impact, but cumulative growth remains strong.

In September, Toyota sold 128,162 vehicles in Japan (-5.2%). Cumulative sales for the first nine months reached 1,128,125 vehicles (+5.7%). The month-on-month decline is related to the restart of production lines following the Prius recall last year.

  • Latin America: +2.7%
  • Oceania: +0.8%
  • Middle East: +2.4%
  • Africa: +12.6%

Looking ahead to the end of the year: drivers and risks

Toyota's main drivers currently come from hybrid demand in the US, flagship models in Europe, and a contribution from all-electric vehicles in China. However, the picture could change due to macroeconomic fluctuations, tax policies, and electrification progress in individual countries. The ability to adapt quickly in terms of product and production will be crucial in maintaining growth momentum in the final quarter of the year.
