Can Tho City calls for investment in urban railway and Tran De coastal economic zone

The People's Committee of Can Tho City is calling on businesses to research and invest in many important infrastructure projects for the city; including the urban railway project and the Tran De coastal economic zone with investment capital of up to billions of USD.

Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City Truong Canh Tuyen introduced infrastructure investment projects in the city.

The leader of the People's Committee of Can Tho City said that according to the Prime Minister's decisions on approving the provincial planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050 of Can Tho City, the goal of developing a synchronous and modern infrastructure system to meet the needs of sustainable socio -economic development is determined. Therefore, the city is calling for businesses to invest in important projects, such as: O Mon Bridge, Thot Not Port, Investment Project to build a new Thot Not 2 water supply plant (capacity of 100,000m3/day and night) and Cai Sau 1, Cai Sau 2 wastewater treatment plant project and collection system (capacity of 90,000m3/day and night)...

Accordingly, for the O Mon Bridge Project across the Hau River (O Mon Ward), the project is located on the inter-regional route Sa Dec (Dong Thap) - O Mon (Can Tho) - Giong Rieng ( Kien Giang , now An Giang province). The total investment is expected to be about 9,187 billion VND, in the form of public-private partnership. To date, the project has been approved for planning, with implementation period from 2026-2030.

Thot Not Port Construction Project (Thot Not Industrial Park, Thot Not Ward), with an investment scale of 2 wharves with a total length of about 260m, with a capacity of 2.5 million tons/year; warehouse area behind the port of more than 11.5 hectares. This is a general cargo seaport, receiving ships with a capacity of 20,000 DWT.

The project is located in the Thot Not - Vinh Thanh ecological, industrial, urban, port and logistics sub-region. The project has been approved for planning. Currently, the city is calling on businesses to study investment in the form of public-private partnership or land use rights auction, implementation period 2026-2030.

Investment project to build a new water supply plant in Thot Not 2 (capacity 100,000m3/day and night). The project is located in Thot Not ward, with a total investment of about 900 billion VND. The city calls for implementation of the project within 2 years, through socialization or other forms in accordance with the law.

For the Cai Sau 1, Cai Sau 2 Wastewater Treatment Plant Project and the collection system (capacity 90,000m3/day and night), the project implementation location is in Hung Phu ward, with a total investment of about 5,000 billion VND in the form of socialization or other forms. Currently, the project has been cleared.

Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Truong Canh Tuyen said that the city is coordinating with the Ministry of Construction and Vinh Long Province People's Committee to complete investment procedures for the construction of Can Tho 2 Bridge Project, spanning the Hau River.

Can Tho City is calling on businesses to invest in the marine economic zone and Tran De Port project.

The Can Tho 2 Bridge Project, part of the North-South Expressway System in the East, is assigned by the Government to the Ministry of Construction as the managing agency, and the My Thuan Project Management Board (under the Ministry of Construction) is the project investor. Currently, the My Thuan Project Management Board is preparing a pre-feasibility study report to submit to the competent authority for approval of the investment policy.

The My Thuan Project Management Board is preparing two options for investment comparison. Accordingly, option 1 is to build a highway bridge and a railway that run independently; if following this option, the total investment is about 24,265 billion VND; Option 2 is to build a bridge that allows the road and railway to run together, the total investment is about 27,650 billion VND.

In parallel with the Can Tho 2 Bridge Project, Can Tho City also invites businesses with experience in urban railway investment to learn and invest in urban railway projects, connecting from the Ho Chi Minh City - Can Tho City railway station to the center of Can Tho City and connecting with urban areas of Soc Trang province and the old Hau Giang province.

To implement the Can Tho urban railway project, city leaders said they will ask the National Assembly for opinions on a mechanism to implement projects under a special mechanism.

In addition, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City said that the city is inviting businesses to participate in researching and investing in the Tran De Marine Economic Zone Project with a length of 72km, in which Tran De Port is an important highlight planned to be built offshore, with a capacity of 160,000 DWT. Around the project, there will be development of sub-projects for aquaculture, afforestation for eco-tourism and offshore wind power projects... The Tran De Port project alone has an investment capital of more than 2 billion USD.
