On the afternoon of November 4, Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Truong Canh Tuyen chaired a working session with Pacific Construction Group (China) to discuss cooperation in the fields of investment, construction, operation and planning for the development of infrastructure projects in the city.
At the meeting, Pacific Construction Group suggested the idea of building a dual-use Can Tho 2 bridge (railway combined with road), and proposed "leave the difficult tasks to us, we commit to the schedule and ensure the quality of the project".
The group's leaders also said that in the near future, they will promote the establishment of a representative office in the Southwest region, choosing Can Tho city as the headquarters, as a basis for promoting investment in future projects.
Informing investors, Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen said that currently Can Tho city and Vinh Long province are coordinating with the Ministry of Construction to invest in the construction of Can Tho 2 bridge. Previously, the plan was two independent bridges, but the Pacific Construction Group proposed the idea of a railway bridge combined with a road, so they are waiting for the group's cooperation in research and construction.
Mr. Tuyen informed that the Ministry of Construction is the investor of the Can Tho 2 bridge project, the city is only responsible for clearing the land on the Can Tho side to build the bridge and clearing the land for the connecting road to the station in Hung Phu ward.
In the future, the city will continue to supplement the urban railway traffic planning, connecting the urban railway station of Ho Chi Minh City - Can Tho to the urban area of Can Tho city (old) and to the center of Soc Trang province and Hau Giang province (old).
The city is planning to ask the National Assembly for a specific resolution to implement in many forms (BT, BOT). If the Pacific Group is interested, the Department of Construction will provide data for research.
In addition, the city also called for investment in an additional bridge over the Hau River connecting O Mon ward (Can Tho) with Lai Vung commune (Dong Thap), on the route connecting Dong Thap - Can Tho and An Giang.
"In addition, we established a marine economic zone with a length of 72km of coastline of the old Soc Trang province. Tran De Port is located in this marine economic zone, built offshore, far from shore and at river mouths.
In the marine economic planning area, there is also aquaculture exploitation, forestation to develop eco-tourism as well as offshore wind power development. The city invites large corporations to research, if it is found feasible, then cooperate to implement together, especially Tran De port," Mr. Tuyen called.
