Adjusting the starting point of Can Gio metro to Ben Thanh, connecting metro line 1

The above content was announced by the City People's Committee Office on October 29 regarding the conclusion of the City People's Committee Chairman at the meeting of the Special Working Group to review and remove difficulties and obstacles for works, projects and land plots in the area.

Accordingly, the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee supported the proposal of VinSpeed High-speed Railway Investment and Development Joint Stock Company to adjust the starting point of the Can Gio metro line from Tan Thuan station to Ben Thanh station; at the same time, he requested Vingroup Corporation to study the plan to develop underground space combined with developing public space in the Ben Thanh market area according to the city's general planning, in order to enhance urban aesthetics, promote tourism economy, and improve regional traffic.

This helps improve operational efficiency, increase service coverage and connectivity between residential areas, commercial centers and the city's economic and administrative center; increase connectivity with metro lines within the city's urban railway system, contributing to the formation of a synchronous and convenient public transport network for people.

Previously, VinSpeed Company proposed to adjust the Can Gio metro line, with the starting point in the area in front of Ben Thanh market (instead of Tan Thuan ward as previously proposed) and connecting with the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro line; the ending point in Can Gio commune. To reduce compensation, support and resettlement costs, the section from Ben Thanh to Tan Thuan will be underground, the section from Tan Thuan to Can Gio will be implemented according to the old plan (elevated).

Along with supporting the proposal to adjust the starting point of the route, the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee requested businesses to continue researching the route direction to ensure feasibility, optimize exploitation capacity, increase connectivity and serve socio-economic development according to the city's urban space development orientation.

VinSpeed Company is responsible for coordinating with relevant departments to update the route to supplement the City's urban railway planning; urgently complete the dossier to submit to the Document Appraisal Council for approval of the investment policy and approval of the project investor.

The leader of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee assigned the Director of the Department of Finance - Chairman of the Appraisal Council to urgently organize the appraisal of the dossier requesting approval of the investment policy and at the same time approve the investor according to the law, and submit it to the City People's Committee for consideration and decision.
