The program is part of the Plan to organize a series of public transport communication events to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025) implemented by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport and Public Works with many meaningful activities.
Accordingly, all passengers using buses, including all intra-provincial bus routes and adjacent provincial bus routes connecting to Ho Chi Minh City, will be exempt from fares on April 30, 2025.
The Public Transport Management Center (HCMC Department of Transport) has also developed a plan to organize and adjust public passenger transport activities to serve the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South (April 30) and International Labor Day (May 1) in 2025.
According to the Center’s assessment, during the April 30 and May 1 holidays this year, people’s travel demand will increase compared to the same period last year. In areas such as Can Gio district, Tan Son Nhat airport, metro line 1 stations and inter-provincial bus stations, the number of passengers is forecast to increase by 5-10%.
Specifically, at Binh Khanh ferry (connecting with Can Gio), there are expected to be about 32,600 passengers/day, of which about 3,000 will use buses.
Tan Son Nhat Airport is expected to serve 120,000 passengers per day, up 10% over the same period, of which about 800 passengers per day will use buses. In particular, the airport's T3 terminal will officially operate from April 30, leading to an increase in demand for bus connections.
In addition, metro line No. 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) is expected to attract a large number of passengers on April 30 due to the events commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and fireworks displays in the central area.
To serve the travel needs of passengers, metro line No. 1 will increase from 200 to 240 trains on April 30 to serve the travel needs and participate in events celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South.
For the bus system, the Center divided it into 6 groups of routes for appropriate adjustment. A total of 18 subsidized bus routes were adjusted on this occasion, including:
16 routes have reduced trips with a total of 2,088 trips to suit actual passenger demand, especially routes with a high proportion of students.
Two temporarily suspended routes, including routes 50 and 52 connecting universities, will stop operating from April 30 to May 4 (800 trips).
In particular, bus route 109 (Saigon Bus Station - Tan Son Nhat Airport) will be adjusted to increase from 42 to 110 trips/day when Terminal T3 is expected to be put into operation on April 30. At the same time, route 72-1 (airport - Vung Tau) will also connect directly to this terminal to serve inter-provincial passengers.
The routes connecting Can Gio, Tan Son Nhat airport, Eastern - Western bus stations - An Suong... are mostly maintained or increased depending on the actual number of passengers. In case of a sudden increase in the number of passengers, transport units are allowed to increase the number of trips by up to 10% compared to the plan, report and coordinate with the Center for timely handling.
During the holiday, Ho Chi Minh City will organize traffic diversion to serve the celebration in central areas such as Le Duan, Nguyen Tat Thanh, Ton Duc Thang... Bus routes passing through this area such as numbers 01, 03, 04, 18, 31, 45, 52, 93... will be adjusted accordingly.
The Center requires transport units to prepare adequate vehicles (including spare vehicles), arrange personnel on duty, and increase supervision at key hubs such as bus stations and airports. In case the number of passengers exceeds expectations, it is necessary to flexibly increase trips and promptly report to ensure smooth transportation.
