DIFF 2025 opening night with the theme "Cultural Essence" |
With the theme “Cultural Essence”, the opening night of DIFF 2025 officially kicked off a series of 6 fireworks displays lasting from May 21 to July 12, 2025, marking the longest and most spectacular festival season in the 15-year history of DIFF.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Le Trung Chinh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City shared: "With the theme "Da Nang - New Era", this year's Festival is not only a space for experiencing the pinnacle, full of emotions of light technology, art, music ... but also a harmony to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Da Nang City, the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South, and the reunification of the country.
This is an opportunity for us to affirm our aspirations and determination to rise up, an opportunity for Da Nang to affirm its position as "Asia's leading event and festival city" and continue to attract international friends to a dynamic, creative and friendly Da Nang".

“No other country has a fireworks festival with up to 10 fireworks teams competing. I believe it is absolutely possible to propose DIFF 2025 to be included in the Guinness Book of Records,” added Ms. Nadia Shakira Wong, CEO of Global 2000, the world’s leading fireworks consultancy.
Affirming the strong attraction of the beautiful coastal city of Da Nang and the brilliant fireworks nights on the Han River, more than 10,000 seats in the grandstand on the opening night of DIFF 2025 were filled. The audience joyfully welcomed a multi-sensory art feast of music, light and AR technology with unique experiences never seen before. In particular, the dramatic "collision" between the host team Da Nang (Vietnam 1) and the reigning champion Joho Pyro (Finland) successfully created a brilliant Asian-European cultural reunion in the sky of Da Nang.
On the night of the performance "Cultural Essence", the home team Da Nang made the stands by the Han River burst with emotion and pride.
For more than 20 minutes, more than 5,000 fireworks simultaneously sublimated, intertwined with music into a magnificent symphony of light, sending a spirited greeting to residents and visitors on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the city's liberation.

Performance by the host team Da Nang's fireworks team on the opening night |
The four fireworks chapters: Harmony - Honor - Integration - Pioneering & Glory tell the story of Vietnamese culture's journey to the world. From the effects of sparkling rain fireworks, soft color-changing fireworks to the waterfall fireworks, simultaneous explosions like waves sweeping across the space, the audience is caught up in the flow of emotions from deep to explosive.
In contrast to the bright, warm and magnificent performance of the host team from the tropics, the performance of “Nordic Lights” by the Finnish team brought a completely different atmosphere, deep and intense like the Nordic spirit itself.
Opening with fiery pop rock melodies like Diamond Eyes, Liar, Heroes Are Calling, the audience is immediately drawn into the intense emotions of the story about a people living between the ocean and the ice, from thousands of small islands.
The first fireworks burst out like waves, rushing over the shore, then suddenly calmed down to the music of Stormskärs Maja, a haunting Nordic ballad reminiscent of wooden boats drifting silently in the mist of the Baltic Sea. Water cannons, the “masterpiece” that made Finland win at DIFF last year, continued to be exploited creatively. From the surface of the Han River, the fireworks seemed to rise from the depths of the water, glide gently, then suddenly erupt violently like columns of waves crashing against the cliffs. The light effects moved gracefully like undercurrents, fiercely recalling the harsh survival journey of the people on the remote island.

The Finnish team suddenly increased the drama when they switched to a series of high-altitude fireworks. The whole sky seemed to light up with bright green, purple, and pink fireworks, flashing like the aurora borealis, a magical natural phenomenon of Northern Europe, taking the audience straight to the cold sky of Lapland.
In particular, during a fireworks show, the Vietnamese audience couldn’t help but exclaim with delight when hearing the song “Bong phu hoa – Vu tru co bay” resounding in the middle of the performance. A Vietnamese song, but resounding among the fireworks with Northern European colors like a friendly greeting, showing the integration and respect for the local culture of the JoHo Pyro team. The fan-shaped fireworks clusters, swirling like flying storks, brought a magical moment of intersection between two seemingly strange cultures.
In addition to the intense competition of light and sound from the teams, the audience coming to the opening ceremony of DIFF this year also enjoyed an unprecedented artistic space. For the first time at a fireworks festival, large-scale outdoor AR virtual reality technology was introduced via the Sun Paradise Land application. Not only integrating vivid graphic effects right on each paper ticket, this AR experience also expanded to the entire poetic Han River space.
