Ho Chi Minh City will start the 7,300 billion VND project to renovate the North bank of the Doi Canal on August 13.

On the afternoon of August 7, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Bui Xuan Cuong and the city's departments and branches conducted a field survey of the project to renovate the North bank of Doi Canal in the wards of Chanh Hung, Binh Dong, and Phu Dinh.

At the meeting, Mr. Dau An Phuc, Director of the Management Board of Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Projects of Ho Chi Minh City, said that the project to renovate the North bank of the Doi Canal has a total investment of more than 7,300 billion VND (including land clearance capital).

The project will construct 4.3 km of embankment on the North bank of Doi Canal, dredge part of the riverbed, expand traffic routes along the canal such as Hoai Thanh Street, Nguyen Duy Street (20 m wide) and build a new extended Nguyen Duy Street 16 m wide.

Mr. Phuc said that the project is divided into 3 packages. Package 2 of the project is to build Hiep An 2 bridge in Chanh Hung ward and Phu Dinh ward, and has organized the selection of construction contractors and supervision consultants. This package is scheduled to start construction on August 13.

As for package 1 (from Ngang 2 canal to Hiep An 2 bridge in Phu Dinh ward) and package 3 (from Hiep An 2 bridge to Chu Y bridge in Chanh Hung ward), if in August 2025 there is an appraisal notice from the Department of Construction, these two packages can start construction in November, expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2027.

Regarding the site clearance of the Project, according to the summary report from the 3 wards of Chanh Hung, Binh Dong, Phu Dinh, the Project has 1,605 affected households, and has so far paid more than 2,964 billion VND to 1,014 cases.

After listening to the reports on the plans and implementation plans of the three wards, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Bui Xuan Cuong agreed on the project's commencement date on August 13 and requested relevant units to urgently complete the necessary procedures to ensure the set progress.

Mr. Cuong requested the People's Committees of the wards to urgently review and adjust the overall 1/2,000 scale zoning plan according to the new administrative boundaries. Then, report to the Department of Construction before September 15 for synthesis and consultation to submit to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee for approval.

Regarding the resettlement plan for people affected by the Project, Mr. Cuong requested that the wards where the project passes through prioritize the implementation of social housing projects to arrange resettlement for people.

The Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee requested the Department of Construction to guide planning adjustments, complete legal procedures for projects, and send a list of social housing and resettlement to the Department of Finance to serve as a basis for allocating public investment capital.
