Ho Chi Minh City standardizes images of tour guides

VTV.vn - On the afternoon of September 18, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism officially launched the 2025 Open City Excellent Tour Guide Contest.

This is a meaningful activity to create a useful career playground, improve professional capacity, and at the same time contribute to spreading the image of a friendly, modern and attractive city to domestic and foreign tourists.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Ms. Bui Thi Ngoc Hieu, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, Head of the Organizing Committee of the contest said: "In the strong development of the tourism industry today, tour guides are always the core force, the 'cultural bridge' between destinations and tourists. The contest will be a place for them to demonstrate their mettle, knowledge, skills and professional service style, and at the same time, an opportunity to exchange, learn and foster love for the profession and the desire to contribute."

Unlike previous editions, this year’s competition is organized in a completely new version, with high interaction and practical experience. This is also the first time this career playground has been deployed in the form of a reality TV show, applying digital technology , integrating real-life situations and direct interaction with tourists.

The content of the rounds is designed to closely follow the new needs of the tourism industry, such as exploiting typical products, civilized behavior, applying technology in explanations, as well as focusing on the trend of green and sustainable tourism. Thereby, candidates can demonstrate their knowledge and comprehensively demonstrate their professional skills, ability to handle situations, foreign language ability and creativity at work.

The competition is an opportunity for tour guides to practice and improve their professional skills.

The competition consists of three rounds: preliminary, qualifying and final. In the preliminary round (October), contestants will take an online test to select the best faces. The qualifying round (November) will focus on practical competitions, handling situations, introducing destinations and typical tourism products. The final round and award ceremony is scheduled to be held in December, to honor the best tour guides in the extended city.

According to the representative of the Organizing Committee, the contest is not only a professional competition, but also brings a journey of experience and self-improvement for each contestant. Through the rounds, they have the opportunity to rub shoulders, improve their professional skills, accumulate practical experience, and at the same time foster their love for the profession and pride in being a part of the city's tourism development.
