The project to install the third 220kV transformer at the 220kV Muong Te transformer station has the following scale: Installing 1 AT3 transformer 220/110/22kV-250MVA; installing equipment for 1 total 220kV feeder of the AT3 transformer; installing equipment for 5 feeders (1 total 110kV feeder of the AT3 transformer, 2 section feeders, 1 communication feeder, 1 loop feeder); equipping the control, protection and measurement, communication and SCADA systems in accordance with the regulations of Vietnam Electricity (EVN), EVNNPT, complying with the Electrical Equipment Regulations and current regulations. After completion, the 220kV Muong Te transformer station will have its capacity increased to 750MVA.

The project started on June 30, 2025, with the plan to be energized in the second quarter of 2026. However, given the urgency of the project, EVN requested completion in October 2025.

Mr. Le Tuan Anh - Deputy Director of NPTPMB said that the project implementation process encountered many difficulties and challenges due to frequent floods in Muong Te area, along with the urgent implementation time and construction under conditions where the transformer station was energized.

This is a great pressure for NPTPMB, however, with the close direction of EVNNPT leaders, along with the efforts and determination of the units participating in the project with the spirit of "working 3 shifts, 4 shifts, through holidays, Tet, and days off", the project was completed on schedule assigned by the Group.

The project, once completed, will be of great significance in order to optimally release the hydropower capacity in Lai Chau province to the national power system; enhance the ability to connect to the grid, reduce power loss, improve safety, reliability and stability in the operation of the regional and national power system; create profits for investors, create jobs for workers; contribute to increasing the state budget revenue, promote local socio -economic development. The project also contributes to limiting power loss in the transmission grid, increasing the production and business efficiency of EVN and EVNNPT, ensuring stable power supply for the Northwest region.
