According to information from the Vietnam Sports Administration, athlete Tran Thi Nhi Yen - known as the new "speed queen" of Vietnamese athletics - has just submitted her application to stop training with the national athletics team.

The 20-year-old star from Tay Ninh has decided not to continue pursuing a top sports career to focus on her studies, specifically studying abroad in the near future. Not being part of the Vietnamese athletics team at this time also means that Nhi Yen will not participate in the 33rd SEA Games held at the end of 2025. During her participation at the Games 2 years ago in Cambodia, she won a bronze medal in the 100m event and a silver medal in the 200m event.
After listening to Nhi Yen's request, the Vietnam Athletics Team Coaching Board reported to the Athletics Department - Vietnam Sports Department, Vietnam Athletics Federation and her request was approved.
This change will force Vietnamese athletics to adjust its performance targets at the 33rd SEA Games, in women's short-distance running.
