Math Open Day (MOD) is organized by the Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics in collaboration with the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City and the University of Natural Sciences (VNU-HCM City).
On December 8, 6,000 students from all schools in Ho Chi Minh City attended the Ho Chi Minh City Open Math Festival 2024 with the theme "Playing with Math" at Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School.
Math Open Day (MOD) organized by the Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics in collaboration with the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City and the University of Science (VNU-HCM) includes a series of open activities on mathematics and STEM in general. The event is an opportunity for a large number of students, teachers, parents, mathematicians andeducators to discuss current topics in mathematics and mathematics education; experience and enjoy the beauty of mathematics and learn about the colorful applications of mathematics in science and life.

The festival included professional activities such as the public lecture: "Mathematics in biomedicine" by Dr. Ha Thi Thanh Huong, International University - VNU-HCM and the discussion "Teaching, learning and applying mathematics in the digital age"...
At the festival, Associate Professor, Dr. Phan Thanh Binh, former Director of Ho Chi Minh City National University, shared that during his work, he realized that knowledge of mathematics is extremely important. "I studied materials science, in my life up to now, nearly 40 years in the education sector, mathematics gave me two foundations. First, the ability to analyze and think logically, this is extremely important. Second, it helps us look at all problems quantitatively, not simply qualitatively, with generalizations" - Mr. Binh acknowledged.
According to Associate Professor Dr. Phan Thanh Binh, no matter what career we pursue in the future, mathematical knowledge helps us have methods for problem thinking, statistics, and problem modeling. From the model, we can see how to solve and forecast trends.
Professor Vu Hoang Linh, President of the Vietnam Mathematical Society and Principal of the University of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi , believes that people who are good at math have a high chance of success even if they switch to other fields in the future. Learning math helps us think logically and know how to organize and arrange work effectively.
"In many fields, including artificial intelligence (AI), statistics and data are needed, the foundation of which starts from mathematics..." - Professor, Doctor of Science Vu Hoang Linh commented.
