In recent years, the movement “Farmers compete in production, good business, unite to help each other get rich and reduce poverty sustainably” in the province has increasingly promoted positive results. Clearly demonstrating the role of a bridge and reliable support for members, Farmers’ Associations at all levels in the province have accompanied and supported members to effectively implement many activities, methods, and new models to help farmer members develop the economy, contributing to the transformation of the agricultural and rural economic structure towards sustainability.

Thanks to proper care, guava gardens in Hoang Xa commune, Thanh Thuy district bring high economic efficiency.

Solid "support"

In 2023, from the orientation of building collective economic models associated with the development of commodity agriculture , the Hoang Xa Commune Cultivation Association, Thanh Thuy District was established with 15 members. Immediately after its establishment, the Association received support from the Provincial Farmers' Association with 1,800 kg of fertilizer and a loan of 300 million VND from the District Farmers' Support Fund to implement the project "Improving the quality of guava fruit". From the initial positive results, in 2024, the District Farmers' Association directed the Commune Farmers' Association to develop the model and establish the Hoang Xa Commune Agricultural and Service Cooperative. At the same time, organize training on intensive guava cultivation techniques in the direction of safety and VietGAP process; accompany and guide the Cooperative to prepare documents and procedures for OCOP certification for Hoang Xa guava.

Comrade Dao Cong Hoang - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Hoang Xa commune said: "With the goal of supporting members to develop sustainable production, in 2024, the cooperative will continue to receive support from the Provincial Farmers' Support Fund for materials, fertilizers and disburse 500 million VND to 10 households for loans. In addition, the district Farmers' Association also circulated a fund of 300 million VND to 6 households for loans to care for and improve the quality of guava gardens. Thanks to that, the cooperative's guava growing area has increased from 10 hectares to more than 14 hectares. The government and the commune Farmers' Association are developing a plan to organize study tours in other provinces to improve the production level of members."

For many years, green apples have been considered a profitable crop in Thanh Son district, with the main crop in Luong Nha commune, notably the green apple growing model of the Luong Nha Vegetable and Fruit Cooperative. Along with technical support, the Farmers' Association at all levels has paid special attention to removing capital difficulties for members. In 2024, the Provincial Farmers' Support Fund disbursed 400 million VND to 10 members to invest in land improvement, build irrigation systems and expand apple growing areas... Taking us to visit the green apple gardens of households in the cooperative, Mr. Le Thanh Dong - Director of the Luong Nha Vegetable and Fruit Cooperative shared: "After more than 20 years of taking root in Luong Nha fields, the quality and economic efficiency of green apples have been affirmed. Thanks to the support of the Farmers' Association and local authorities in terms of capital and technology, the cooperative members have boldly expanded their scale, gradually increasing their income; the Luong Nha apple brand is increasingly known to many consumers". Luong Nha apple products are always ordered by traders right at the garden, with a stable selling price of 35,000 - 40,000 VND/kg, bringing an average income of 200 - 250 million VND/year to each household.

Thanh Son District Farmers' Association currently has 13 professional associations, 24 professional associations, 21 cooperatives, 38 cooperatives with over 17,400 members. Identifying farmer support activities as one of the key programs, Farmers' Associations at all levels in the district have focused on innovating and improving the effectiveness of consulting, support, service, and vocational training activities for farmers to develop production and business. Along with that, the Association continues to develop and improve the effectiveness of operations, manage and effectively use the Farmers' Support Fund to help members have conditions to develop the economy, create jobs, increase income, and reduce poverty.

Along with Hoang Xa guava, Luong Nha green apple, many typical agricultural products of the province such as: Tan Duc traditional sticky rice sauce, Lam Son hill chicken, Muong meat, Black Crow sticky rice, My Lung Ga crow sticky rice... are increasingly developing, improving quality, value, and competitiveness thanks to timely support from HND.

Leverage for sustainable agricultural production

In recent years, the Farmers Support Fund has been one of the important credit sources to help Phu Tho farmers develop production, shift the agricultural and rural economic structure, and increase income. Currently, the total capital of the Farmers Support Fund at all levels in the province has reached nearly 60 billion VND, lending to 237 projects with 1,563 borrowers. Of which, the capital entrusted by the Central Farmers Support Fund is 15.5 billion VND; the provincial capital is 21 billion VND; the district capital is 21 billion VND. Farmers' Associations at all levels have closely coordinated with the Social Policy Bank to effectively implement credit programs for poor households and policy beneficiaries in the area. The total outstanding debt of credit programs is nearly 1,900 billion VND; managing nearly 980 savings and loan groups with over 31,400 members participating in borrowing.

Comrade Ha Thi Thanh Huong - Chairman of Thanh Thuy District Farmers' Association said: Promoting the role of "support" for members, the District Farmers' Association continues to focus on building and consolidating a strong association organization. At the same time, regularly coordinate with the Provincial Farmers' Association to train and transfer science and technology to members. Regarding the movement of farmers competing in production, good business, solidarity to help each other get rich and sustainably reduce poverty, the Association will mobilize and support members to promote their potential, build OCOP products in the area; link with manufacturers to consume products for members".

Thanks to the appropriate mechanisms and policies of the locality, the timely support and assistance of the Provincial Farmers' Support Fund and preferential loans to help farmers in the province get rich, create jobs for many workers, many members have become good farmers and business households, creating jobs for many local workers. In 2024, the whole province has over 85,500 households achieving the title of good production and business; 40 good farmer and business clubs were established with 460 members.

Along with that, the Association at all levels proactively carries out activities to transfer scientific and technical advances, coordinates with consulting agencies to support and teach farmers, provides high-value crop and livestock varieties, supports members to buy agricultural materials, machine tools, fertilizers on credit... Organizes many training conferences to support the development of commodity agricultural production, creating OCOP products in 2024 for nearly 500 farmer members in the districts: Cam Khe, Tam Nong, Thanh Son, Tan Son, Thanh Ba, Doan Hung; supports and guides the development of brands for 6 OCOP products: "Nguyen Huong 19 rice wine", "Sour cassava" in Thanh Ba district; "Cu Thang rice noodles" in Thanh Son district; "Tay Coc dried tea" in Doan Hung district; "Phuc Sen fermented fish" in Phu Ninh district; "Phuoc Duyen sour sausage" in Cam Khe district.

In particular, the Association at all levels has focused on promoting activities to support farmers in introducing and consuming products. Each year, 3-5 "Markets to promote, promote trade, connect supply and demand of OCOP products and safe agricultural products" are organized. Each market has 18-20 booths with over 100 OCOP products and safe agricultural products from localities in and outside the province. Over 6,000 farming households have been supported to register accounts on e-commerce platforms. To date, more than 100 products have been consulted and supported by the Association at all levels to build their brands.

Comrade Le Thi Quynh - Vice President of the Provincial Farmers' Association said: “In the coming time, the Provincial Farmers' Association will focus on improving the capacity of specialized staff at the grassroots level, creating conditions to maximize the role in supporting members. The Association will continue to strengthen the inspection and close supervision of loan sources to ensure efficiency in use, avoid ineffective investment leading to bad debt, overdue debt; promote science and technology transfer programs, apply high technology in agricultural and forestry production, especially commodity production. Orienting and connecting agricultural product consumption markets for farmers will be a key factor, helping members not only expand production but also increase product value. Thereby, not only helping farmers improve their income, creating a strong motivation for many members to rise up and develop sustainable family economies".
