Thai Dinh Nam is still known by his friends at the University of Economics and Finance Ho Chi Minh City as the luckiest guy of the year, as he immediately found sweet love while volunteering at the first Vietnam Youth and Student Football Tournament in 2023.
Dinh Nam and Mai Thy's beautiful love story blossomed thanks to student football.
Last night, December 20th, a theoretical training session for volunteers participating in the 2nd Vietnam Youth and Student Football Tournament - 2024 took place at the University of Economics and Finance Ho Chi Minh City (UEF). A total of 100 UEF students volunteered to support the tournament throughout the qualifying and final rounds. Notably, 85 of these 100 students were volunteers in the first tournament in 2023. Impressed by the vibrant and engaging football tournament organized by Thanh Nien Newspaper and the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), they registered to volunteer again this year. Many beautiful memories were shared during the training session. Interestingly, we heard the sweet love story of two young people, Thai Dinh Nam and Nguyen Mai Thy, both second-year students at UEF. Thanks to their volunteer work in the logistics of the 2023 Vietnam Youth and Student Football Tournament, they found their significant other.

Confessing your feelings before the final day.
Thai Dinh Nam is a student majoring in Finance and Banking. The young man from Nghe An province said that before participating in supporting the organizing committee with logistical tasks for the football tournament, he didn't know his classmate from the same year and school. But during the UEF volunteer gatherings, and while carrying out volunteer tasks such as coordinating fans, carrying stretchers, holding flags, and picking up balls... at the Ton Duc Thang University stadium, he began to notice something very special about Mai Thy. "Mai Thy was charismatic and strong-willed. At that time, she had dyed her hair red, which was quite impressive. I also thought she was very pretty, so I started to get to know her and talk to her," Dinh Nam recounted.

NHAT THINH Nguyen Mai Thy, a multimedia communications student from Binh Dinh province, also said that when Dinh Nam started talking to her, she responded and gradually grew fond of him because he often cared enough to buy her drinks and invite her to eat at the canteen after the football match ended. Gradually, Dinh Nam and Mai Thy talked more. Besides meeting and supporting each other with volunteer work at the football tournament, they also went out for coffee and movies… Until one day, after a movie date, Dinh Nam mustered up the courage and texted his classmate to confess his feelings. "It was 1:23 PM on March 19, 2023, a few days before the final match of the 2023 Vietnam Youth and Student Football Tournament. I remember it vividly because I liked Nam before but didn't dare confess my feelings. On March 19, I only dared to give him a quick hug before rushing home. A little while later, I saw Nam's message. I immediately agreed," Mai Thy recounted the memorable moment with a smile. On March 26, 2023, at the end of the 2023 final match, when the Hue University team had just won the championship, the young couple, Dinh Nam and Mai Thy, along with hundreds of Hue University fans, celebrated all over the stadium. The couple also took an unforgettable photo. On Mai Thy and Dinh Nam's volunteer shirts, there was still the signature of player Tien Linh - a special spectator at the final match, and also their idol.

This year, the 2nd Vietnam Youth and Student Football Tournament - 2024 will hold its opening match on January 6th, 2024 in Ho Chi Minh City. Both Dinh Nam and Mai Thy continue to be volunteers for the tournament, sharing the excitement of the matches, enjoying drinks under the scorching sun at the Ton Duc Thang University stadium, and going out for delicious meals at the university's cafeteria in District 7. Both Dinh Nam and Mai Thy believe that their beautiful student love gives them extra motivation to overcome the pressures and stresses of their studies and work. Their love story – along with that of nearly 100 other UEF volunteers – is even more memorable thanks to the beautiful memories associated with student football.
