After many days of being stranded on shore due to heavy rains, floods and rough seas, since November 8, fishermen in Loc Ha commune have been busy returning to the sea to exploit the Northern fishing season (from October of the previous year to March of the following year). Many fishing boats near the shore and offshore have caught crabs, bringing in a good income for the people.

Fisherman Nguyen Van Hanh (Nam Son village, Loc Ha commune) said: "There are many crabs, only 2-4 nautical miles from shore, so there is no need to cast the net far to catch a relatively large amount. Boats usually cast the net at dusk the day before and arrive at the wharf around 4-6 am the next day to remove the crabs and sell them to traders. This time, there was a trip that brought back nearly 50 kg of crabs, everyone was very excited, had to mobilize human resources to concentrate on removing the crabs caught in the net."
According to local fishermen, in recent days, small boats have caught 20-40 kg of crabs, while big boats can catch 70-90 kg of crabs. Traders from many places have flocked to "collect goods", helping fishermen earn from several million to more than ten million VND per trip.

In Tien Dien commune, the atmosphere of production at sea has also become bustling again. Fishermen take advantage of the early hours to go out to sea to catch crabs, silver pomfret and many kinds of seafood near the shore. Mr. Tran Van Manh - Head of the Co-management Team of Coastal Fisheries No. 2 said: "Fishermen in this area have a tradition of catching crabs. This year, crabs appeared with quite good output, favorable output, so almost every boat when docking has a good source of income.
Traders are always waiting, selling all the catch. Currently, the price of crab is stable at 110,000 - 160,000 VND/kg depending on the type, so each short trip at sea can bring in 3 - 5 million VND. From October onwards is the season of many high-value seafood such as anchovies, sea shrimp..., so as long as the weather is good, and we can predict that we will catch a lot of fish and shrimp, we are always ready to go to sea.

The seafood that the sea gives after a long time of "staying ashore" not only helps people earn more income and stabilize their lives, but also creates motivation to continue investing in fishing gear, preparing to go offshore in the last months of the year.
To welcome the Northern fishing season, many boat owners have equipped themselves with fish finders, GPS devices, net winches and checked all machinery before entering the new fishing season. Fisherman Nguyen Tien Hau (Thach Khe commune) shared: “This season, we fishermen often call it the monsoon season, facing many difficulties and hardships, so everything must be better prepared, and boats also need to be reinforced. The Northern fishing season often has many fish streams near the shore such as silver pomfret, sea shrimp, crabs, etc., so with modern equipment to support the boat, it will follow the direction better and not waste time searching. Thanks to that, each trip only takes 6-8 hours but is much more effective than before."

Although facing many dangers at sea, in return, offshore fishing species in the northern fishing season have high economic value such as mackerel, tuna, catfish, bream, orange fish, red snapper, etc. Therefore, fishermen who own large-capacity vessels in the province always have high expectations for this fishing season.
Mr. Tran Van Thanh - owner of a fishing boat in Hai Ninh ward said: "Our boats often move to Da Nang sea to fish. This season, the sea water is cold, fish go far from shore, so we mainly exploit bottom-dwelling species such as grouper, orange-crested fish, red snapper... Each trip lasts from 10 to 15 days, usually operating in an area 100 to 200 nautical miles from the coast of Da Nang. Currently, the boat owners have prepared fishing gear, checked the machinery and mobilized crew to go to sea in the next few days."

It is known that currently, Hai Ninh ward has one of the largest fishing fleets in the province with more than 453 vessels, of which nearly 80 are over 12 meters long, specializing in offshore exploitation.
Mr. Vu Hoang Xuan Hung - Deputy Head of the Economic - Infrastructure and Urban Department of Hai Ninh Ward said: "To "support" fishermen, we regularly remind and encourage people to maintain production pace, pay attention to ensuring safety during their work and strictly implement the provisions of the Fisheries Law, preventing illegal IUU fishing".

The Northern fishing season often brings abundant resources with many typical species such as anchovies, mackerel, croaker, scad, eel, shrimp, shrimp, squid and other molluscs. This is a favorable condition for fleets, especially those in the inshore and offshore areas, to increase productivity and output.
In particular, in traditional fishing grounds, schools of pelagic fish (anchovies, mackerel, etc.) appear densely, lasting from 5 to 7 days each time with good reserves, helping many boats achieve high yields and bring about clear economic efficiency. Along with the Southern fishing season, the Northern fishing season is considered one of the two main fishing seasons, creating the main source of income for fishermen during the year.

Mr. Nguyen Trong Nhat - Deputy Head of the Fisheries Sub-Department (Department of Agriculture and Environment) said: "Since the beginning of October, due to unfavorable weather, fishermen have not been able to concentrate on going offshore much. It is forecasted that from the end of November, the weather will improve.
The specialized sector and local authorities continue to encourage fishermen to stay at sea for production, invest in technology and equipment to effectively exploit valuable aquatic species, associated with responsible fishing; at the same time, increase the provision of information on fishing grounds, resources and consumption markets so that fishermen can proactively plan production. Along with that, the sector promotes propaganda, monitoring and control of fishing vessels to ensure that fishermen's fishing activities do not violate regulations on preventing and combating IUU, together with the whole country to remove the Yellow Card of the European Commission (EC)".
