On the evening of March 21, Chinese technology corporation Tencent officially launched the complete version of its artificial intelligence (AI) model T1, stepping up competition in the increasingly vibrant AI field in this country.

According to an announcement on Tencent's official WeChat account, the upgraded version of T1 has faster response speed and improved long text processing capabilities. The model can "maintain clear content logic, neat and coherent text" and the error rate is "extremely low".

The move comes as China's AI race heats up after DeepSeek introduced models that perform on par or outperform Western AI models, but at significantly lower costs.

Tencent previously released a beta version of T1 through platforms including its AI assistant app Yuanbao. The official version is powered by the Turbo S platform language model, which was launched late last month. According to Tencent, Turbo S has a faster query processing speed than DeepSeek's R1 model.

Tencent has been ramping up its investment in AI in recent times. On March 20, the company announced that it would increase its capital expenditures in 2025, continuing its strategy of investing heavily in AI through 2024.

Capital expenditures are the money a business uses to invest in fixed or long-term assets to increase production capacity, improve efficiency, or extend the life of existing assets. These expenditures may include the purchase of real estate, machinery, equipment, or infrastructure upgrades./.
